Cuando se somete al organismo a cambios de presión extremos y aceleraciones a las cuales no está acostumbrado sobrevienen alteraciones en el sistema vestibular que pueden provocar graves accidentes por desorientación espacial. En este capítulo intentamos explicar la fisiología del sistema vestibular en condiciones extremas y las posibles soluciones a estos problemas que se han ido desarrollando para evitar accidentes aéreos.

When the human body is subjected to extreme changes in pressure and accelerations to which it is unaccustomed, alterations can occur in the vestibular system that can provoke serious accidents due to spacial disorientation. The present article aims to explain the physiology of the vestibular system under extreme conditions and the possible solutions to these problems that have been developed to avoid aviation accidents.
