Estudio prospectivo aleatorizado”" ] ] "textoCompleto" => "<span class="elsevierStyleSections"><p id="par0005" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">In recent years, the use of flexible ureteroscope for the treatment of renal lithiasis (retrograde intrarenal surgery [RIRS]) has emerged as an alternative to consolidated techniques such as extracorporeal lithotripsy (ESWL) or percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Despite the weakness of the available studies, implementation and dissemination of this technique in our environment are a reality.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0035"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1</span></a></p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The growing interest in RIRS might seem a quirk of young urologists for this attractive surgery; however, the good results and low complication rate should make us reconsider this statement.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0040"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span></a></p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Data relating to a recent publication of the Cochrane<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a> reveal the need for prospective, randomized studies to understand the role of ESWL, RIRS, and PCNL in the treatment of kidney stones. Lacking these studies, a recent meta-analysis provides better results at the expense of increased morbidity at PCNL versus RIRS<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a>; however, and assuming the retreatment, RIRS results are comparable to PCNL.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0055"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a></p><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">In line with prospective designs, the authors of this article obtained matching results in terms of higher stone-free rate of RIRS versus ESWL for stones over 1<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>cm, similar to published works.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0060"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">6</span></a> A greater casuistry might grant greater solidity to the conclusions of this work.</p><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">RIRS walks towards a promising future.
