Given the enormous amount of existing information, different agencies have established evaluation systems through specific indicators of the impact of such publication. Although it is recognized that there is not always an unambiguous relationship between this impact and the quality of the contents published, it is the most considered parameter in the estimation of the literature quality. In recent years, <span class="elsevierStyleSmallCaps">Actas Urológicas Españolas</span> has reached an enviable quality, the result of the good work of its Editorial Board, authors and reviewers, a fact that has been reflected on a significant increase in impact factors, both of the JCR and the SJR. At the beginning of 2015, we assumed the challenge of the change of the journal to the exclusively electronic publication, eliminating the printed version and maintaining the simultaneous publication in Spanish and English. The aim was to promote new technological tools of information and communication technologies (ICT), save on the costs of edition of the journal, as well as increased international presence.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0020"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1</span></a></p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">In the middle of this year, the impact factor (IF) JCR of 2015 (IF-2015) was published, corresponding to the citations obtained in 2015 by the works published in the previous 2 years (2013 and 2014). A slight decrease of the IF (0.964), probably derived from the problems of visibility of the journal in its transition to the digital version and some bibliometric deviations in quantifying the IF-2015, is appreciated. However, this problem is tending to diminish, especially from the end of 2015 and in 2016, when we objectified a substantial increase in the number of downloads of published papers, figures that were limited in the first half of 2015, which made us assume that the journal was less consulted (and less visible). Additionally, the percentage of downloads of the English version has expanded, which indicates a greater interest in our articles, also, outside the Spanish speaking area. This fact is reflected on a greater proportion and absolute number of external citations received, our current IF not depending so much on self-citation. Moreover, after more than 6 months after the beginning of a complex process, this year <span class="elsevierStyleSmallCaps">Actas Urológicas Españolas</span> has achieved the quality seal of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). This foundation, dependent on the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness through the Secretary of State of I+ D<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>+<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>I, has developed a project called ARCE aimed at providing a recognition of the editorial and scientific quality of Spanish journals, and at guiding those responsible for the editorial process towards excellence, providing aid to increase editorial quality and its national and international impact.</p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Anyway, regardless of all these strategies, peer review and originality of published works are the pillars that guarantee the quality of the contents of the journals. In this sense, the number of manuscripts received in recent years in ACTAS has increased, which has led to increased activity in the selection and, therefore, in reviewing the works, and, secondarily, in the rejection rate, which already exceeds 60%. This has forced to significantly increase the number of reviewers, including evaluators with English proficiency, and to develop guidelines for improving the review that will be launched soon. The work of the reviewers in this process is essential<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0025"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span></a> and, therefore, we must recognize it and show gratitude for being part of the constant improvement of our journal. In the attached list, those who collaborated between June 2015 and 2016 have been included. During this period, almost 85% of the invitations made have been accepted, with a mean response time shorter than 6 days and a resolution of the review in an average of 21 days. Ingelfinger, influential editor of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">The New England Journal of Medicine</span>, said ‘An ideal reviewer is fair, objective, fast, efficient, respectful to the author's ideas, conscious of his role in the process, and versatile in five domains of the knowledge: thorough knowledge of the subject, general methodological knowledge and of research design, mastery of language, respect for ethical aspects of scientific research, knowledge of rhetorical methods to increase the communicative power of a message.
