Web 2&#46;0&#44; also known as participative and social web&#44; includes websites based on user-generated context&#44; usability&#44; participatory culture and interoperability &#40;i&#46;e&#46;&#44; compatible with other products&#44; systems&#44; and devices&#41; for end-users&#46;</p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">G&#243;mez Rivas et al&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0030"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1</span></a> performed a review of the articles found in PubMed with the search terms&#58; Social media&#44; Urology&#44; Science and Research in his analysis about scientific social networks and their current role in urology &#40;<span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Actas Urol&#243;gicas Espa&#241;olas</span>&#44; June 2019&#41;&#46;</p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Today&#44; social media &#40;SoMe&#41;&#44; especially Facebook&#44; Instagram and Twitter&#44; Periscope&#44; YouTube and LinkedIn are an essential part of our personal and professional lives&#46; Due to user&#39;s constant interaction&#44; content dissemination and editing&#44; it is a tool that provides us with exponential acquisition of knowledge accessible to a very wide audience &#40;even to patients&#41;&#46; However&#44; the random or extensive employment of these tools entails some cons&#58; mainly the difficult distinction between scientific&#47;non-scientific information&#44; free access even for fake profiles and patients&#8217; ethical and legal issues&#46; These are some of the reasons why these networks are not recommended by health care associations&#46;</p><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Alsyouf et al&#46; recently published a study in BJU &#40;May 2019&#41;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0035"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span></a> on urology &#8220;fake news&#8221; in social media platforms&#44; concluding that inaccurate&#47;misleading articles on genitourinary malignancies are 28 times more likely to be shared than factual articles&#46;</p><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">In another paper published by Loeb et al&#46;&#44;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0040"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a> the authors analyzed the first 150 videos on prostate cancer &#40;screening and treatment&#41;&#44; concluding that 77&#37; contained misinformative and&#47;or biased content&#44; with a negative correlation between scientific quality and visualizations&#46;</p><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">These studies highlight the importance of guiding patients to appropriate resources and appeal for the surveillance from health care and technological communities&#46;</p><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Although Twitter and LinkedIn are social networks for personal use&#44; these can be used with scientific or professional purposes&#59; Twitter&#44; with the appropriate hashtags and scientific content&#44; and LinkedIn as a curriculum vitae&#44; especially in the business field&#46; In fact&#44; an article by Nolte et al&#46;&#44;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> also published in May 2019 in European Urology Focus&#44; shows the positive correlation between the number of likes&#47;RTs in scientific content tweets during a congress &#40;AUA&#41; and the subsequent publication of related works in a journal in the following months&#44; revealing the importance and impact of social networks in our professional spheres&#46;</p><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Today&#44; in the information and Internet era&#44; it is difficult to differentiate between fake and real information&#44; as well as to separate our private lives from the professional ones&#46; Our duty as health care professionals and researchers is to be faithful to scientific knowledge and patient confidentiality ethics&#46;</p><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Sc-SoMe &#40;ResearchGate&#44; Orcid&#44; Doximity&#44; Mendeley&#44; etc&#46;&#41; have an acceptable level of scientific credibility&#46; Users are selected and divided according to common interests and&#47;or research areas&#46; Although they do are not as active and fresh as other social networks&#44; their information is specialized with significant scientific value&#46; This allows users to relate and link profiles of similar authors&#44; contact and share publications&#44; as well as having a reliable online CV&#46; Some of these Sc-SoMe allow us to see scores&#44; acting as a personal impact factor&#46;</p><p id="par0050" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">It should be noted that&#44; since the last decade&#44; there are tools to calculate the impact factor of publications on social networks through algorithms&#46; An example of these is Altmetrics&#44;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a> an impact factor calculated through weighted algorithms based on media&#44; science blogs&#44; Twitter&#44; Facebook and Wikipedia citations &#40;among others&#41;&#46; These results are displayed in Altmetric &#8220;donuts&#8221; with the attention score in the middle&#46; The donut&#39;s colors represent the different channels &#40;for example&#44; Facebook is dark blue&#41;&#46;</p><p id="par0055" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">We must get to know the available tools&#44; adapt them to our own needs and keep progressing to excellence through social media&#46; It is our responsibility to know and discover the different instruments&#44; and the review in AUE<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0030"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1</span></a> is a great summary on scientific social networks &#40;Sc-SoMe&#41; for the most inexperienced users&#46;</p></span>"
