It is important not to refer said supervision to other non-medical professionals due to frequently complex health-related commercial dilemmas.</p></li><li class="elsevierStyleListItem" id="lsti0010"><span class="elsevierStyleLabel">2.</span><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">We prescribe the appropriate graduation — <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">the entire graduation</span> — necessary with “myopia criteria”, i.e. the minimum graduation for the child/teenager can always have 100% (10/10) vision, in contrast with hypermetropia where the maximum would be used. The theory of leaving hypo-corrected or “short” prescription of 0.50<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>D has been demonstrated to not have any effect in halting myopia and only causes difficulty at school (<span class="elsevierStyleItalic">power points</span> and blackboards).</p></li><li class="elsevierStyleListItem" id="lsti0015"><span class="elsevierStyleLabel">3.</span><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">We do not use bifocal or multifocal lenses in spectacles or contact lenses because these lenses have not been proven to provide any benefit for users, the only benefit being for the suppliers.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0030"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1</span></a></p></li><li class="elsevierStyleListItem" id="lsti0020"><span class="elsevierStyleLabel">4.</span><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">We do not withdraw spectacles during reading, using cell phones, <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">tablets</span>, etc., because this has been demonstrated to have no influence on the progression of myopia. Any influence could be indirect because said activities tend to be carried out in poor lighting conditions, thus diminishing and avoiding hours of exposure to natural sunlight, which is the genuine treatment for preventing the progression of myopia.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0035"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span></a></p></li><li class="elsevierStyleListItem" id="lsti0025"><span class="elsevierStyleLabel">5.</span><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">We do not recommend any type of “school exercise” or any other so-called “visual therapy” with balls, following minute drawings or the like because these have no benefits for halting myopia, except for the professional who invoices these activities.</p></li><li class="elsevierStyleListItem" id="lsti0030"><span class="elsevierStyleLabel">6.</span><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">We do recommend parents to increase activities under natural sunlight, i.e., outdoor activities to at least 15<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>h or more per week, as it has been demonstrated that sunlight increases dopamine production by amacrine retinal cells, which is the molecule involved in anti-myopia mechanisms.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0040"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a></p></li><li class="elsevierStyleListItem" id="lsti0035"><span class="elsevierStyleLabel">7.</span><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The only reason for giving up treatment with 0.01% atropine eyedrops is never due to the child complaining of blurry near vision. The only reason is the lack of motivation and persistence by parents who must be involved in the daily application of these eyedrops, which must be administered for years.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a></p></li><li class="elsevierStyleListItem" id="lsti0040"><span class="elsevierStyleLabel">8.</span><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The theory of peripheral retinal hypermetropic unfocusing which, through mysterious and never demonstrated stimuli would increase myopia and which should be avoided prescribing bi- and multifocal spectacles, optical hypo-correction or not wearing near vision spectacles, has already been dismissed as false by the authors who initially proposed it.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a></p></li></ul></p></span>" "pdfFichero" => "main.pdf" "tienePdf" => true "NotaPie" => array:1 [ 0 => array:2 [ "etiqueta" => "☆" "nota" => "<p class="elsevierStyleNotepara" id="npar0005">Please cite this article as: Díaz Llopis M.
