It would be interesting to know the range in both variables and whether time between diagnostic and beginning of treatment is exclusively for the hospital environment or it includes time elapsed outside of hospitals in order to obtain a better characterization of patient flow. It is known that delays in the beginning of treatment is one of the main causes of unnecessarily poor results in the treatment of neovascular ARMD with anti-VEGF medication, and the main recommendation in usual clinical practice is to shorten as much as possible the time elapsed between diagnostic and treatment.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0025">2</a>In the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria (HUNSC), in Tenerife, Spain, we have made a retrospective analysis of patients treated for neovascular ARMD with anti-VEGF treatment between July 2014 and July 2015. The study included 67 patients and the time elapsed between diagnostic by an ophthalmologist, either out of hospital or in hospital, was one of the variables of the study. In our sample, the mean time elapse between diagnostic and treatment was 19.93±21.14 days, the mean being 14 days and the range between 3 and 150 days. A recent study in usual clinical practice carried out in France obtained a time lapse between diagnostic and treatment of 20.3±16.8 days.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0025">2</a> Accordingly, it seems common practice that at present neovascular ARMD is treated after 2 weeks since diagnostic, to which we should add the time elapsed since the onset of symptoms.Even though it seems that, in comparison to previous studies carried out in Spain,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0030">3</a> the time for beginning treatment for neovascular ARMD may have improved substantially, going from an average of 2.3 months to 10–15 days, although this improvement continues to be clearly insufficient to obtain the best visual results in daily clinic practice. Early diagnostic and optimization of hospital referral circuits and therapeutic action should be a priority for ophthalmology departments." Archivos de la Sociedad Española de Oftalmología is the official journal of the Ophthalmology Society of Spain, that has over 4,000 members. It gives priority to the publication of basic, translational and clinic research including reviews, original articles, short communications, editorials, letters to the editor and clinic practice guides related to Ophthalmology and its subspecialties. A small section of the journal is reserved for the most relevant papers presented at the annual Congress of the Society. All manuscripts considered for publication are reviewed by expert examiner peers (double blind). The journal is published monthly and even though its official language is Spanish all articles are translated into English to increase the dissemination of scientific information. At present, Archivos is the only Spanish language Ophthalmology journal indexed in PubMed/MEDLINE in addition to other prestigious international databases such as Scopus.
