A 54-year-old male came to the Emergency Department with abdominal pain in the right iliac fossa for the previous 3h. Lab work-up detected elevated C-reactive protein levels and leukocytosis with neutrophilia. CT scan (Fig. 1) showed dilatation of the distal ileal loop measuring 10×6cm with multiple foreign bodies, causing intestinal obstruction. After urgent laparotomy, a Meckel diverticulum with significant dilatation was found in the terminal ileum (Fig. 2). Diverticulectomy was performed. When the resected diverticulum was opened, numerous seeds were found inside. The pathology report confirmed the diagnosis of a diverticulum with intense chronic inflammation and no evidence of malignancy.
Diagnosis: intestinal obstruction caused by Meckel's diverticulum.
