Chronic Hyoid Fracture

An 18-year-old male came to our ER for persistent dysphagia, dysphonia and deformity of the neck three months after cervical contusion caused by a fall off a horse onto a rock. Radiographs were ordered, where we observed fracture of the hyoid bone (Fig. 1). We resected the body of the hyoid bone with no complications (Fig. 2A and B). One month after surgery, the patient had improved swallowing and phonation.
