Embolization of the uterine arteries, as an alternative treatment to hysterectomy in patients with symptomatic fibroids, consists in the occlusion of these arteries by injecting particles of gelled polyvinyl alcohol using radioscopic monitoring. In this study we present the results obtained in the University Hospital of the Virgen de las Nieves in Granada during the years 2001 and 2002. We look at improvement of symptoms, reduction in uterine size, patient satisfaction, and fertility.
