The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 0.8% of people worldwide aged 15–49 years living with HIV.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0065"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span></a> Early development of HIV and AIDS in the world, the pattern of transmission occurred in homosexuals. This has led to an assessment that AIDS is a disease of people who have sexual behavior ‘deviant’. However, in Indonesia, the spread of HIV and AIDS is dominated by heterosexual sex is not homosexual as the stigma over the years. HIV and AIDS can be about anyone. In the first case of HIV found among subpopulations at high risk, for example male and female sex workers, transvestites, male high risk. In the development of discovered cases of HIV in the group of housewives who are not high-risk behavior and only have sex with her husband. This pattern continues today with the data transmission through heterosexual sex is still dominating the spread of HIV and AIDS in Indonesia.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0070"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a> HIV/AIDS was ranked 1st in a list of infectious diseases in Banten province in 2016 with the number of new HIV 336 and AIDS 212 people.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0075"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> Tangerang Regency is the district with the number of HIV/AIDS in Banten Province in 2016 with the number of cases of HIV by 138 people and AIDS as many as 43 people.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0075"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> Prison class II A Tangerang is a special prison for women, where all prison residents are adult women. Prison Class II A Tangerang reported having as many as 4971 prisoners in 2016 and as many as 4746 in 2017.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0080"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a> The number of inmates living with HIV/AIDS was reportedly 32 people in 2016 and 30 people in 2017.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0080"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a> One of the biggest obstacles in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS in Indonesia is still high stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0085"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">6</span></a> Based on a preliminary study conducted in Tangerang Women's Class II A on December 20, 2017, interviews were conducted with 15 prisoners who were not infected with HIV/AIDS, 9 claimed not to understand how HIV/AIDS was transmitted. Many reports that they know this disease is seen in unscrupulous people and stay away from people with HIV/AIDS for fear of contracting AIDS. Based on the data, there are still prison inmates who do not understand HIV/AIDS. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of health education on HIV/AIDS stigma among female prison inmates.</p></span><span id="sec0010" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0020">Method</span><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">This quantitative research followed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest. The experiment was conducted in April 2018 with a purposive sample of 30 inmates from Female Penitentiary Class II A Tangerang.</p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Data were collected using instruments stigma used a questionnaire that has been tested that theory to the interpretation of Phulf, misconduct and discriminatory behavior and has been used by Hermawati.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0090"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">7</span></a> In counseling, researchers used the lecture method and leaflets. To facilitate the extension of researchers make SAP on HIV/AIDS. The data analysis was univariate and bivariate with the dependent <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">T</span>-test.</p></span><span id="sec0015" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0025">Result</span><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The frequency distribution of this study, as described in <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0005">Table 1</a>, obtained an average age of 30 respondents is 35.07 years. The youngest age of 19 years and the oldest 56 years old and majority of respondent secondary education (50%).</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="tbl0005"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Analysis of the effect of health education on HIV/AIDS stigma from prisoners in Tangerang A Class II Women's Penitentiary was conducted using the average difference test of two groups of couples. The following test results before and after the stigma normality test and health education are presented in <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0010">Table 2</a>, normality of data using the Shapiro Wilk test, the test uses the dependent <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">T</span>-test.</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="tbl0010"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall"><a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0015">Table 3</a> shows the average stigma before and after counseling is 102.07 and 83.07. There was a decrease in stigma after health education, with an average of 19.00.</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="tbl0015"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The results of further analysis with the dependent <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">T</span>-test obtained a value of P (0.000)<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span><<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>(0.05), then Ho is rejected, meaning that there are differences in stigma scores before and after health education about HIV/AIDS. This shows that there is a stigma effect on health education for prison residents</p></span><span id="sec0020" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0030">Discussion</span><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Age determines a person's behavior and abilities, including how to respond to stimuli given individually. This varied age of respondents can cause different responses from individuals to the stigma of people living with HIV.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0090"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">7</span></a> Stigma and discrimination against people with HIV are influenced by several factors such as knowledge, perception, education, gender, age, economic status, exposure to sources of information about HIV/AIDS, as well as their interactions with people with HIV also affect one's stigma against people with HIV.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0095"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">8</span></a></p><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Education level is an indicator that someone has gone through formal education and generally influences the ability to process information. The factors that education is one of the things that influence behavior because education is an experience that serves to develop the ability and quality of a person, where the higher the level of education, the greater the ability to utilize knowledge.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0095"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">8</span></a> The level of education of someone influential in responding to something that comes from outside. Highly educated people will be more rational and creative and accept their various reform efforts, they will also be able to adapt to various changes.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0100"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">9</span></a> The level of public knowledge about HIV/AIDS and how it is transmitted is one of the factors causing stigma in society toward people with HIV/AIDS, stigma is any form of physical and social attributes that reduce a person's social identity, to disqualify the person from social acceptance as a whole.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0105"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">10</span></a> Knowledge about HIV/AIDS influences attitudes toward people living with HIV. Stigma seems to be related to one's ignorance about the mechanism of HIV transmission. Misunderstanding or ignorance about HIV often impacts people living with HIV who are afraid of causing rejection of PLWHA.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0085"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">6</span></a></p><p id="par0050" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Experience and education affect one's level of knowledge and cognitive domain knowledge plays a key role in the formation of one's actions (open behavior). Furthermore, behavior based on knowledge that is based will be maintained longer than behavior that is not based on knowledge.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0095"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">8</span></a> The role of health institutions is also needed to eliminate stigma and discrimination so that people living with HIV do not experience treatment rejection.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0110"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">11</span></a> Before health education, mostly with the stigma in the high category, 17 (56.7%). The research was conducted using a pre-experimental with one group pretest–posttest design. The sample using purposive sampling and consisted of 30 inmates. Health education was using lectures and media leaflets. Analyses were conducted using dependent t-tests. Prior to receiving health education, just over half of the sample reported high levels of stigma (<span class="elsevierStyleItalic">n</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>=<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>17, 56.7%). After the health counseling, the majority of the sample reported low levels of stigma (<span class="elsevierStyleItalic">n</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>=<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>25, 83.3%).
