Estudio sobre el préstamo bibliotecario a los estudiantes de la diplomatura de Fisioterapia

Resumen

La consulta de material bibliográfico es una modalidad didáctica frecuentemente manejada tanto por los profesores como por los alumnos universitarios.Las universidades en la red nacional I + D (entre las que se encuentra la Universidad de Murcia) disponen de amplia información y fácil acceso a los catálogos de sus bibliotecas, así como acceso a las bases de datos que contienen las referencias más relevantes para nuestra disciplina: Fisioterapia.

Objetivos

Analizar el empleo del material bibliográfico por parte de los estudiantes de la titulacián de Fisioterapia de la Universidad de Murcia.

Material y métodos.realizóun seguimiento de los prástamos bibliotecarios efectuados para 341 estudiantes pertenecientes a los tres cursos de la Diplomatura de Fisioterapia, con edades entre 17 y 43 aáos (edad media: 21, 24 aáos y desviacián tápica: 3,69). Durante cuatro meses, en seis momentos diferentes: dos peráodos vacacionales (semana santa y verano) y cuatro fines de semana, se recogiá informacián relativa a la extraccián de libros por parte de losalumnos de Fisioterapia en la biblioteca del centro donde se imparte dicha titulacián (Facultad de Medicina).

Resultados

En los seis momentos analizados se prestaron a los alumnos de la titulacián 237 libros, que se distribuyeron de forma homogánea entre los tres cursos: 35% de los libros para alumnos de primer curso, 31,6% para alumnos de segundo y 33,3% para los de tercer curso.

Los resultados del anáisis estadástico muestran diferencias significativas entre el námero de libros prestados en los dos peráodos vacacionales (p < 0,001) y entre los prástamos de dos fines de semana: 12 de mayo y 23 de junio (p < 0,05).

Conclusiones

La demanda de material bibliográfico por parte de los estudiantes de Fisioterapia no está sujeta a razones de sexo, procedencia acadámica ni al curso que estudia. Existen determinados momentos dentro del calendario acadámico en los que la demanda de libros es más importante. Este estudio pone de manifiesto la tendencia de los estudiantes a solicitar libros durante el mes previo al comienzo del peráodo de exámenes. En cambio durante este peráodo la demanda disminuye de forma significativa.De nuestros resultados se deriva que los estudiantes de Fisioterapia realizan un importante uso del material bibliográfico que tienen a su alcance y por tanto es necesario atender a la actualizacián y relevancia del material bibliográfico del que disponen los centros documentales a los que acuden.

Abstract

he consultation of bibliographical material is a didactic method as frequently accessed by professors as by university students. The universities in the national network I + D (amongst which is the University of Murcia), have ample information and easy access to their library catalogues, as well as access to databases which contain the most relevant information for our discipline: Physiotherapy.

Objectives

To analyse the use of bibliographical material on the part of Physiotherapy undergraduates at the University of Murcia.

Material and method

A study was carried out of library loans made to 341 students belonging to all three Physiotherapy courses, whose ages ranged between 17 and 43 (average age 21.24 and standard deviation 3.69). During four months, on six different occasions: two holiday periods (easter and summer) and four weekends, information was collected relating to the withdrawal of books by Physiotherapy students from the library in the centre where this degree is studied (Faculty of Medicine).

Results

On the six occasions analysed, 237 books were lent to physiotherapy degree students, which were distributed homogeneously between the three courses: 35% of books for students in the first course, 31.6% for students in the second, and 33.3% for students in the third course.

The results of the statistical analysis show both significant differences between the number of books lent in holiday periods (p <0.001), and between the loans of two weekends, 12th of May and 23rd of June (p <0.05).

Conclusions

The demand for bibliographical material on the part of Physiotherapy students is not subject to reasons of gender, academic origin nor to the course studied. There are certain times during the academic calendar during which the demand for books is higher. This study shows studentsátendency to request books during the month before the beginning of the exam period. However, during this period demand is significantly reduced. From our results, it can be determined that Physiotherapy students make significant use of the bibliographical material which is available to them, and therefore it is necessary to make sure that the bibliographical material available in documentary centres is up to date and relevant for the students who go there.
