Introduction

Pedagogical training of preceptors is one of the strategies necessary to ensure proper training during the Residency.

Objective

To present the first “pedagogical training of preceptors of residency in healthcare” course, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Methods used

Twenty preceptors from three teaching, public hospitals attended the semi classroom pedagogical training course: classroom course: (60h), at the Teaching and Research Division of one of the hospitals and distance course (120h), using Universus electronic tool; first semester of 2011, three modules: Education, Labor, Health. Pioneer experience, with a view to expand the model to other institutions of the Unified Health System from other states.

Results obtained

the course demanded dedication, reading and class attendance to classroom activities and to electronic tool distance. Themes: Education: active learning methodologies; preceptor-student/resident-teacher-patient relationships; teaching-learning process, teaching techniques and evaluation; Work: skills/performance in health work - evaluative processes; subjects of health care; Health: hospital as a practice scenario. Prepared intervention projects to be implemented in practice scenarios.

Conclusion

Identified: perception of a new role for preceptorship; identification of common problems; carrying out work with many professionals and institutions; acquisition of knowledge that will help to reflect about practice; understanding of the meaning of care production; personal growth as a citizen; awareness of who is the subject that is part of the Unified Health System.
