    "textoCompleto" => "<span class="elsevierStyleSections"><p id="par0005" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">A 56-year-old man presented with complaints of decreased hearing and purulent discharge from the left ear since 2 months&#46; He had a previous history of pulmonary tuberculosis 12 years back for which he had taken medication for 6 months&#46; Examination of left ear showed purulent ear discharge and multiple perforations of the tympanic membrane &#40;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig&#46; 1</a>&#41;&#46; Pure tone audiometry assessment showed a profound hearing loss&#46; The pus obtained from external auditory canal was positive for AFB staining with Zielh&#8211;Neelson stain and the histopathological examination of the pale granulation obtained from the middle ear showed granulomas with caseating necrosis&#44; epitheloid &#40;lower arrow&#41; and multinucleated giant cells &#40;upper arrow&#41; &#40;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0010">Fig&#46; 2</a>&#41;&#46; He was started on anti-tubercular drugs and at the end of 6 months&#44; complete resolution of the condition was noted&#46; Tuberculosis of the middle ear was first demonstrated by Eschle in 1883&#46; The incidence has been in constant decline and it is rarely encountered today&#46; Patients present with painless otorrhea and hearing loss with examination findings of multiple tympanic membrane perforations and exuberant granulations&#46; Complications occur mostly when diagnosis is delayed&#44; and include facial paralysis&#44; labyrinthitis&#44; meningitis&#44; and subperiosteal abscesses&#46; Anti-tubercular drugs should be given for a period of 6 months for complete cure of this and surgical treatment should be added to medical therapy in cases with complications&#46;</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0005"></elsevierMultimedia><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0010"></elsevierMultimedia><span id="sec0005" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0005">Source of financial support or funding</span><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">None&#46;</p></span></span>"
