Fundamento

Describir el patrón demográficoy tendencia de las infecciones porStaphylococcus aureus resistente a la meticilina(SARM) (1992-1997).

Métodos

Estudio descriptivo de infeccionesSARM en hospital general de tercer nivel.

Resultados

267 infecciones SARM, 131 en58 brotes y 136 aislados. Servicios más afectados:medicina interna, urología, neurología,cirugía vascular y UCI. Aumento en pacientesmayores de 65 años y servicios médicos.

Conclusiones

El aumento de las infeccionesSARM en servicios médicos en edadesavanzadas y pacientes mayores de 65 añosportadores nasales podría traducir la situacióncomunitaria originaria.

Objective

To describe the demographic patternand tendency of the infections byMRSA between 1992 and 1997.

Design and methods

Descriptive study of theinfections by MRSA in a tertiary-care hospital.

Results

267 MRSA infections, 131 infectionswere included within 58 buds and136 cases isolated form. The more affectedservices were Internal Medicine, Urology,Neurology, Vascular surgery and intensivecare unit. A tendency was observed to theincrease in > 65 years cases and in medicalservices.

Conclusions

The increase of elderly casesin medical services and > 65 years carriersin their nose could translate the existent situationin the community.
