There are several works that demonstrate the aerosolization of secretions from patients during bronchoscopy, and this represents a risk for healthcare professionals present in the room during its performance.1 Due to this, adequate protection of these professionals and certain measures in the bronchoscopy room are necessary to protect both the health of these professionals and of the patients who enter the room later. In order to protect the health of the bronchoscopy staff, it was decided to design a portable structure made of copper, with a cubic shape, to be placed on top of the patient's head during the bronchoscopy. A transparent plastic is placed over this structure that covers the structure and isolates the patient's airway from the rest of the room. The material chosen for the structure was copper because it was calculated that it remains in the copper for only 4h.2 To verify that this prototype truly protects professionals, an experiment was performed with a clinical simulation manikin as shown in the video. This prototype could serve as an idea to develop a protective hood during bronchoscopy that was, like ours, effective in retaining the aerosolization, with disposable material and easy to clean and disinfect.
