Summary
Objective

The present study aims to determine the test-retest exactness and accuracy of a vertical jump, since analysis of the human movement is necessary in many areas of medicine.

Material and methods

Vertical jump performance with contra-movement (triple flexion of the lower limbs) of 9 individuals is analyzed. Their mean age is 25 years and the SD 4.82 by means of the Orthobio® system. Recordings of 2 reflective superficial markers of 2 cm in diameter placed on the spinal apophysis of C67 and L3, was done at rest and during each jump, filming three repetitions in the frontal posterior plane, with two digital cameras at a sampling rate of 25 photograms per second. Sample size was determined by a correlation index of 0.95, b equal to 0.90 and a equal to 0.05.

Results

The accuracy index obtained by the Orthobio® system in this study is 0.97 in C7. It is also necessary to emphasize the high exactness of the Orthobio® system that is deduced from the comparison of the measurements performed by the system and manually. In these results, it is observed that the exactness of the system is greater in the second series of jumps (r=0.99 in L3 and r=0.99 in C7) in comparison with the first series of jumps (r=0.97 in L3 and r=0.98 in C7).

Conclusions

Training of the observers increases exactness. L3 is proposed as the point to measure the vertical jump. Accuracy of the measurements of the vertical jump performed in the C7 is greater than that done in L3.
