Resumen

La enfermedad de Parkinson es un proceso idiopático degenerativo de las vías dopaminérgicas nigroestriadas, de evolución progresiva e insidiosa, cuya edad de comienzo ronda los 55 años y que constituye una frecuente causa de discapacidad en la población geriátrica.

Presentamos un programa de rehabilitación de la enfermedad de Parkinson, desarrollado en el Hospital de Día Geriátrico de nuestro hospital, dirigido a los pacientes que se encuentran en los estadios III y IV de Hoehn y Yahr.

Se expone el tratamiento realizado, que se centra en el mantenimiento de la movilidad y del control postural, de la habilidad para realizar las actividades de la vida diaria, el aprendizaje de técnicas de desbloqueo motor, y en evitar el deterioro cognitivo. Es llevado a cabo en grupos de 10–12 pacientes, que reciben de forma coordinada los tratamientos de fisioterapia y de terapia ocupacional.

Summary

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative idiopathic condition of the dopaminergic nigrostriatal pathways whose development is progressive and insidious and whose age at onset is approximately 55 years. It constitutes a frequent cause of incapacity of the geriatric population.

We present a rehabilitation program for Parkinson’s disease carried out in our Geriatric Day Hospital which is aimed at Hoehn and Yahr stages III and IV patients.

The treatment performed, which centers on the maintenance of mobility and postural control, on the ability to perform the activities of daily living, on learning of techniques for motor unblocking and on avoiding cognitive deterioration, is explained. This is carried out in groups of 10–12 patients who receive coordinated physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
