Disfunción sexual asociada al tratamiento con metotrexato

El metotrexato (MTX) es actualmente el fármaco antirreumático de acción lenta más utilizado en el tratamiento de la artritis reumatoide (AR) en EE.UU. y en Europa. La toxicidad, sobre todo cuando afecta al aparato digestivo y al sistema nervioso central, es la principal causa de los abandonos del tratamiento. La impotencia sexual es un efecto adverso descrito recientemente. Presentamos 3 casos de impotencia sexual que hemos observado en nuestra consulta.

Methotrexate (MTX) is the most popular slow-acting antirheumatic drug used in the USA and Europe for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Toxicity is the major reason for MTX discontinuation. The most common side-effects of low-dose MTX are gastrointetinal toxicities, but central nervous system toxicity may also occur. The development of erectile impotence is another toxic effect recently observed. We present three new cases of erectile impotence in patients treated with MTX.
