Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the apical sealing ability of two root canal sealers. Thirty-eight human single root teeth were used and divided into two groups of 15 elements according to the root canal sealer used for obturation (Group A:AH Plus and Group B:Tubli-Seal). Eight teeth were used as positive and negative controls and were not filled (Group C). The canals were instrumented by a crown-down technique, using a set of Hero Shaper® and Hero 642® (Micro- Mega S.A., Besançon, France). Canals were irrigated with a 5,25% sodium hypochlorite solution between each instrument and smear layer was removed by applying 3ml of 17% EDTA in the end of instrumentation for 3 minutes, followed again by 5,25% sodium hypochlorite. Groups A and B were filled by lateral condensation. All teeth, except the negative control, were covered with cyanoacrylate followed by nail varnish up to 2mm from the apical foramen. Negative control was totality impermeabilized. All specimens were immersed in 50% silver nitrate dye. Transverse sections cut of each root were done and analysed. The obtained results were submitted for statistical analysis SPSS® v.14.0. There were no statistically significant differences between the two endodontic sealers (p>0.05).
