Concern about transmission to the family was also lower in pharmacy professionals (16.1%) and health managers (18.9%).

Significant differences were observed in the reasons for vaccination according to the age of the professional (under or over 40 years). Younger people consider influenza to be less of a serious illness (25.6% vs. 38.1%) and vaccination less important as a preventive tool (60.9% vs. 74.2%). Also in the primary care setting, there seems to be greater confidence in vaccination as an influenza prevention tool (13.1% of hospital staff do not believe that vaccination protects them from the disease compared to 6.3% primary care) and they are more concerned about adverse effects (22.7% compared to 15.8% primary care).

The remaining reasons (having had the disease in the past, having been encouraged by colleagues, authorities, family, media, or Internet, concern about getting the disease, or in the work environment) obtained less than 10% of responses.

As for the reasons for not being vaccinated, significant differences were found according to health profile, with more pharmacy staff and other professionals considering “never having been vaccinated" (55% and 50.5%, respectively) as a reason for not being vaccinated (Fig. 2).
<elsevierMultimedia ident="f0010"></elsevierMultimedia>
The remaining reasons (that it causes influenza, not believing in the protection of the vaccine, not having time, considering themselves immunised because of exposure, not considering it a serious disease, not wanting to be injected, believing it is better to get the disease, not having the facilities to get vaccinated, believing it is an industry strategy, or other beliefs against vaccination) obtained response percentages of less than 10%.

With regard to the suggestions made to promote vaccination (Fig. 3), it is striking that younger professionals demand greater accessibility, campaigns, and information from the health authorities (16.8% of the youngest, <40 years old, suggest that it should be promoted by the management of the centre compared to 8.1% of the older professionals). The result of making vaccination compulsory is very relevant in an ethical context in which more emphasis is placed on the responsibility of the professional and not on obligation. On the other hand, in recommendation of vaccination by the professional, differences were also found according to the work centre (primary care/hospitalised) and the profile of the professional. In the multivariate analysis, when adjusting for all these variables, only a history of previous vaccination against influenza was significantly related to a higher probability of having been vaccinated (OR: 63.9–95% CI: 51.3–69.6) together with having taught (OR: 1.34–95% CI: 1.06–1.69) or having training in vaccines (OR: 1.55–95% CI: 1.23-1.96).
