Piocyst in giant inguinoscrotal hernia: A rare complication

A 56-year-old patient consulted for a large right inguinoscrotal hernia.

Computed tomography showed that the hernia contained almost the entire urinary bladder. Open inguinal hernioplasty was indicated.

On the day of surgery, bladder catheterisation yielded 1400 mL of foul-smelling urine with a purulent appearance in relation to the pyocystis (Fig. 1), a consequence of superinfection of the urine retained inside the hernia sac. Although the patient had no infectious symptoms, it was decided to postpone the operation.
