Robot-assisted caudate lobectomy: A video technique

First described in 2002, robotic surgery of the liver is still considered a developing technique due to the scarcity of data necessary for its evaluation as well as the limited variety of instruments available compared to other surgical methods.¹>

Although the results of robotic surgery and laparoscopy are comparable, the former seems to increase the rate of major liver resection, even when using a “parenchyma-sparing” approach.

Resection of the caudate lobe is surgically challenging due to its proximity to the main vascular structures and its deep location. After reporting our preliminary experience, in this video we illustrate our technique for robotic caudate lobectomy.
