Con el objetivo de evaluar los resultados de la técnica, se han incluido todos los pacientes en el presente estudio.</p> <span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle">Pacientes y métodos</span><p id="spar0010" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">Se estudian prospectivamente 224 pacientes (228 herniorrafias) intervenidos entre junio de 1989 y junio de 1999; 178 fueron mujeres (79,4%). La edad media fue de 57,7 años (rango, 16-98). La intervención fue urgente en el 32,9% de los casos, y el 5,3% de éstos necesitó resección intestinal. Se empleó anestesia general en 161 casos (70,5%), regional en 58 (25,6%), y local en 9 (3,9%). Se utilizó polipropileno monofilamento en todos los casos. El seguimiento medio mediante exploración periódica es de 57 meses (rango, 1-120).</p> <span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle">Resultados</span><p id="spar0015" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">La estancia media fue de 3,5 días. Se produjeron complicaciones locales en 15 casos (6,6%), e intolerancia a la prótesis en un caso (0,4%); un paciente (0,4%) precisó reintervención por protrusión de la malla con dolor persistente; una hernia (0,4%) recidivó; una paciente (0,4%) intervenida de urgencia falleció; 3 pacientes (1,3%) han presentado posteriormente hernia inguinal del mismo lado.</p> <span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle">Conclusiones</span><p id="spar0020" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">Creemos que la herniorrafia crural con prótesis cilíndrica es la técnica de elección en la hernia crural, si bien en los casos de hernia recidivada o incarcerada pueden contemplarse otras alternativas.</p>" ] "en" => array:1 [ "resumen" => "<span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle">Introduction</span><p id="spar0025" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">Since 1989, we have been using the technique described by Lichtenstein for the treatment of femoral hernia. We review our entire series of patients for the purpose of evaluating the results of this technique.</p> <span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle">Patients and methods</span><p id="spar0030" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">A series of 224 patients who underwent 228 hernia repairs between June 1989 and June 1999 were studied prospectively. There were 178 women (79.4%). The mean age was 57.7 years (range: 16 to 98 years). Emergency surgery was performed in 32.9 cases, 5.3% of which required bowel resection. General anesthesia was employed in 161 cases (70.5%), regional in 58 (25.6%) and local in 9 (3.9%). Monofilament polypropylene was utilized in every case. The mean follow-up, involving periodic examination, is 57 months (range 1 to 120 months).</p> <span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle">Results</span><p id="spar0035" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">The mean hospital stay was 3.5 days. There were 15 local complications (6.6%). One patient developed intolerance to the prosthesis (0.4%). Another (0.4%) required reoperation due to mesh protrusion accompanied by persistent pain. There was one case of hernia recurrence (0.4%). One of the women who underwent emergency surgery died (0.4%).
