Summary

Heterotopic pregnancy is the combination of intrauterine and ectopic pregnancy. The incidence of this type of pregnancy has increased in the last decade due to the rise in tubular and pelvic disease as well as in the number of couples undergoing assisted-reproduction techniques. The aim of this case report is to describe the difficulty of early diagnosis of this type of pregnancy because of the initial symptoms of ovarian hyperstimulation and its late manifestation (week 16 of gestation). In this report we question whether the associated ectopic pregnancy was the result of embryo transfer or of subsequent spontaneous pregnancy.
