It occurs more frequently in the sigmoid and descending colon, is predominant in men between the fourth and fifth decades of life and is related to obesity. It is a rare entity and its incidence is unclear, because it presents symptoms based on abdominal pain rarely associated with nausea, fever and leukocytosis; which is confused with acute inflammatory diseases such as appendicitis, cholecystitis and diverticulitis.
