Presentamos el caso de un varón de 65 años con un angiomioma del espacio retrofaríngeo. El angiomioma es un tumor que se origina en el músculo liso de la pared de los vasos sanguíneos. Es un tipo de tumor relativamente raro en cabeza y cuello, especialmente en localizaciones profundas. Este es el segundo caso descrito de angiomioma en el espacio retrofaríngeo. Aunque los estudios de imagen y la punción-aspiración con aguja fina (PAAF) apuntan hacia un tumor de origen vascular, el diagnóstico de esta lesión se realiza sólo mediante biopsia excisional y tinción con vimentina, desmina, actina o miosina. El tratamiento consiste en resección quirúrgica, y la recurrencia del tumor tras ello es excepcional
We report the case of a 65-year-old male patient with an angiomyoma of the retropharyngeal space. Angiomyoma is a tumour that arises from the smooth muscle in the wall of blood vessels. It is a relatively rare tumour of the head and neck, mostly in deep locations. This one is the second reported angiomyoma of the retropharyngeal space. Although image examinations and fine needle aspiration (FNA) did point to a vascular tumour, the diagnosis of this lesion is made by on excisional biopsy and histological staining with vimentin, desmin, actin or myosin. The treatment is excision of the tumour and recurrence is exceptional
