id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">A 39-year-old woman, presented to the emergency department with a one-week history of sore throat and stiffness of the left part of the neck. On examination, she presented a moderate swelling of the posterior wall of the oropharynx with medialization of the ipsilateral tonsil (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig. 1</a>). On palpation, the swelling was hard and pulsatile. A CT scan of the neck with contrast was performed showing a giant pseudoaneurysm of the left internal carotid artery, partially thrombosed, produced after spontaneous artery dissection (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0010">Fig. 2</a>). The patient underwent angiography, confirming the diagnosis, (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0015">Fig. 3</a>) with a good cross flow at the occlusion test and the artery was definitively occluded. The patient didn’t develop any neurological deficit during or after the procedure. This case shows the importance of meticulous exploration during the management of infectious cervical disease in order to avoid lethal complications, and the requirement of multidisciplinary teamwork to obtain the best results for the patient.</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0005"></elsevierMultimedia><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0010"></elsevierMultimedia><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0015"></elsevierMultimedia><span id="sec0005" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0005">Conflicts of interest</span><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The authors declared no conflicts of interest with respect to the authorship and/or publication of this article.</p></span></span>" "textoCompletoSecciones" => array:1 [ "secciones" => array:1 [ 0 => array:2 [ "identificador" => "sec0005" "titulo" => "Conflicts of interest" ] ] ] "pdfFichero" => "main.pdf" "tienePdf" => true "multimedia" => array:3 [ 0 => array:6 [ "identificador" => "fig0005" "etiqueta" => "Figure 1" "tipo" => "MULTIMEDIAFIGURA" "mostrarFloat" => true "mostrarDisplay" => false "figura" => array:1 [ 0 => array:4 [ "imagen" => "gr1.jpeg" "Alto" => 799 "Ancho" => 750 "Tamanyo" => 63294 ] ] ] 1 => array:6 [ "identificador" => "fig0010" "etiqueta" => "Figure 2" "tipo" => "MULTIMEDIAFIGURA" "mostrarFloat" => true "mostrarDisplay" => false "figura" => array:1 [ 0 => array:4 [ "imagen" => "gr2.jpeg" "Alto" => 650 "Ancho" => 750 "Tamanyo" => 41555 ] ] ] 2 => array:6 [ "identificador" => "fig0015" "etiqueta" => "Figure 3" "tipo" => "MULTIMEDIAFIGURA" "mostrarFloat" => true "mostrarDisplay" => false "figura" => array:1 [ 0 => array:4 [ "imagen" => "gr3.jpeg" "Alto" => 868 "Ancho" => 750 "Tamanyo" => 29110 ] ] ] ] ] "idiomaDefecto" => "en" "url" => "/21735735/0000007100000006/v1_202011170657/S2173573520301095/v1_202011170657/en/main.assets" "Apartado" => array:4 [ "identificador" => "5869" "tipo" => "SECCION" "en" => array:2 [ "titulo" => "Images in otorhinolaryngology" "idiomaDefecto" => true ] "idiomaDefecto" => "en" ] "PDF" => "https://static.elsevier.es/multimedia/21735735/0000007100000006/v1_202011170657/S2173573520301095/v1_202011170657/en/main.pdf?idApp=UINPBA00004N&text.app=https://www.elsevier.es/" "EPUB" => "https://multimedia.elsevier.es/PublicationsMultimediaV1/item/epub/S2173573520301095?idApp=UINPBA00004N" ]
