Despite the efforts made by the authors to study our scientific framework, we would like to express our disagreement by highlighting the absence of the ENT department of the Principe de Asturias University Hospital in the list of departments included, bearing in mind that this department has published 5 articles in international journals in JCR and another 2 in Acta Otorrinolaringológica Española over the period studied. This could be due to a bias in the search strategy that could also affect other departments and, therefore, be ignoring the present status that is being conveyed. Part of this bias we believe is not having considered among the publications those carried out in areas other than ENT, such as 2 of ours undertaken in the area of neurosciences, and without excluding others. This is an important aspect to consider if we intend to encourage scientific production, since our specialty is at a disadvantage given the few journals in the area of ENT, which makes it difficult to publish in first-quartile journals. Furthermore, we would like to point out that some of our publications have been undertaken jointly with basic research groups belonging to other centres, which appear in these publications together with our own. The combination of heterogeneous research groups undoubtedly contributes to access to publications in journals with a greater impact factor in related areas.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0010">2</a> In addition, publications in which the first and last authors do not belong to an ENT service have also been excluded. This criterion has been considered in other studies on bibliometric analysis in order to capture the greatest number of related institutions.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0015">3</a>Finally, we would like to acknowledge the efforts on the part of authors to convey reality, which surely must make us rethink how to encourage the spirit and willingness to publish in scientific journals, not only because of what this means for the recipients of these publications, but also, and above all, for the authors themselves. For this reason, and because of the effort involved in undertaking research work in addition to healthcare activity, we would have liked not to have been excluded from the list of ENT departments with research activity." Acta Otorrinolaringológica Española, the official publication of the Spanish Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and the Ibero-American Society of Otorhinolaryngology, is the most important journal in Spanish dedicated to Otorhinolaryngology, which reflects the continuous scientific and technical progress of the specialty. It has become an important tool to be kept up to date. The Journal publishes Original Articles (articles on basic research and clinical investigation), reviews, brief communications, case studies and images, which are subjected to a rigorous peer review process.
