Resumen
Introducción

En noviembre de 1998, la Asociación Española de Urología decide realizar un estudio sobre la litotricia en España, a través del Grupo de Trabajo en Litiasis Urinaria, con el objetivo de conocer el nº y distribución de Unidades y la situación real de la litotricia extracorpórea por ondas de choque, en relación con otros métodos complementarios o alternativas terapéuticas

Metodología

Remitimos a todas las Unidades de Litotricia una ficha de recogida de datos: Características de la unidad, nº de enfermos, localización de los cálculos, complicaciones, evolución y comentarios personales

Resultados

Participan en el estudio 63 unidades de litotricia, actualmente 3 no mantienen su actividad y 23 pertenecen al Sistema Sanitario Público. La población española es de 39.848.000 habitantes, distribuidos en 17 comunidades autónomas, resulta una unidad de litotricia por cada 660.000 españoles. Se han tratado 264.875 enfermos, presentan litiasis bilateral sincrónica, 18.276 (6,9%) y en 18.592 se realiza nuevo tratamiento por recidiva litiásica

Los cálculos tratados se localizan a nivel renal en el 60% de los casos, ureteral, 39% y vesical, 1%. La litiasis residual expulsable, sedimentada o no expulsable, corresponde al 9%, 6,8% y 6% respectivamente, en total 21,8%

Conclusiones

Tras el análisis de estos datos, se observa con evidencia que en España, cada millón de habitantes genera 602 casos de litiasis/año, susceptibles de ser tratados con ondas de choque. La distribución de recursos disminuye los gastos complementarios: desplazamientos, derivaciones urinarias temporales, profilaxis infección urinaria, analgésicos, etc

Abstract
Introduction

In November of 1998, the Spanish Association of Urology decides to carry out a study on the litotripsy in Spain, through the Group of Work in Lithiasis Urinary, with the objective of knowing the nº and distribution of Units and the real situation of the extracorporeal litotripsy for shock waves, in connection with other complementary methods or therapeutic alternatives

Methodology

We remit to all the Units of Litotripsy a record of collection of data: Characteristic of the unit, nº of sick, localization of the calculi, complications, evolution and personal comments

Results

63 units of litotripsy have participated in the study, at the moment 3 of them don't work and 23 belong to the Public Sanitary System. The Spanish population belong to 39.848.000 inhabitants, distributed in 17 autonomous communities, there is a litotripsy unit for each 660.000 Spaniards. 264.875 sick people have been treatet, they present synchronous bilateral lithiasis, 18.276 (6,9%) and a new treatment for relapse of calculi has been carried out in 18.592 sick people

The treated calculi are located at renal level in 60% of the cases, ureteral, 39% and vesical, 1%. The expelled, deposited or not expelled lithiasis residue corresponds to 9%, 6,8% and 6% respectively, and to 21,8% in total

Conclusions

After the analysis of these data, it is observed with evidence that in Spain, each million of inhabitants generate 602 cases of litiasis / year, susceptible of being treated with shock waves. The distribution of resources decreases the complementary expenses: displacements, derivation temporary urinary, prevention infection urinary, analgesic, etc
