Summary

Splenic vein aneurysms are extremely rare andusually caused by portal hypertension. Symptoms are unusual, but may include thrombosis, rupture or abdominal pain. Most splenic vein aneurysms are incidental findings, diagnosis can usually be made either by means of duplex ultrasonography, computed tomography scanning or the venous phase of a splenic arteriogram. Treatment varies from noninvasive follow-up to aneurysm surgery. We report a case of a 50 years old woman with a 5cm splenic vein aneurysm, no history of portal hypertension and the treatment was the aneurysm excision.
