In this regard, other authors have published results suggesting that remote distance through the Internet, e-learning, could produce equally positive results.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0015">1</a> This type of training has also demonstrated to be successful in Spanish hospitals<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0020">2</a> although not for diabetic retinopathy. E- learning involves significant savings in time for general practitioners as well as financial savings for the administration. Therefore, comparing the evolution in the diagnostic of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema after online training for general practitioners followed by live training, would provide priceless information for the future program such as Retisalud.One of the tasks of the Retisalud program is to implement a census of diabetics in the Canary Islands, which would enable control of a number of legally blind or visually disabled patients due to diabetes. We believe that this census is feasible on the basis of the previous successful initiatives carried out in the islands such as the census of HIV and AIDS patients, where data are treated confidentially and duplications are avoided.It might be interesting to analyze what would be required to adapt the existing software and methodology for diabetes patients and blindness derived from the disease. This would enable the analysis of the evolution and impact of Retisalud and facilitate an overview of the general use of resources. In addition, if the results are positive, it would be an encouragement for the personnel involved in the project to maintain their interest." Archivos de la Sociedad Española de Oftalmología is the official journal of the Ophthalmology Society of Spain, that has over 4,000 members. It gives priority to the publication of basic, translational and clinic research including reviews, original articles, short communications, editorials, letters to the editor and clinic practice guides related to Ophthalmology and its subspecialties. A small section of the journal is reserved for the most relevant papers presented at the annual Congress of the Society. All manuscripts considered for publication are reviewed by expert examiner peers (double blind). The journal is published monthly and even though its official language is Spanish all articles are translated into English to increase the dissemination of scientific information. At present, Archivos is the only Spanish language Ophthalmology journal indexed in PubMed/MEDLINE in addition to other prestigious international databases such as Scopus.
