La enfermedad congénita de la aorta comprende un amplio espectro de enfermedades con diferente presentación clínica, variedad ésta que depende de edad, peso, lesiones asociadas, etc. La evolución natural de la enfermedad aórtica congénita ha sido estudiada durante muchos años. El manejo ha cambiado mucho en los últimos 20 años y continúa en rápida y permanente evolución. Existe un mayor campo de actuación en el tratamiento quirúrgico y endovascular de la enfermedad aórtica, ha mejorado el diagnóstico prenatal y el manejo postoperatorio de una manera sustancial, lo que permite mejores resultados quirúrgicos. Esta revisión pretende informar acerca de los aspectos básicos, el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la enfermedad congénita de la aorta.
Congenital diseases of the aorta have different degrees of complexity with different clinical patterns, depending upon the age, weight and associated lesions. The natural evolution of congenital diseases of the aorta has been studied for years. The management of both the infant and child with congenital disease of the aorta has improved considerably in the past 20 years. The expanding field of surgical and endoluminal treatment of aortic disease, the prenatal diagnosis and the remarkable improvement in the operative outcome, have all contributed to the success of the surgical approach. This brief presents the basic aspects, the diagnosis and the treatment of the aortic diseases in the infants and children.
