No hubo mortalidad.

Introduction. The development of the surgical and anesthetic techniques applied in ambulatory major surgery and in laparoscopic cholecystectomy have made the development of ambulatory laparoscopic cholecystectomy possible.
Patients and methods. Fifty-two patients were selected to undergo ambulatory laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The selection criteria were those utilized in the Ambulatory Major Surgery Unit in patients with a history of uncomplicated, symptomatic cholelithiasis.
Results. The procedure was converted to open surgery in two cases. Seventy percent of the patients were discharged home on the same day as the intervention. There were only two complications, the readmission of a patient sent home the next day and on case of eventration through a trocar port. Ten percent of the patients had to remain in the hospital for more than 24 hours due to abdominal pain. There were no deaths.
Conclusions.. When carried out in selected patients by surgical teams with experience in either ambulatory major surgery or laparoscopic surgery, ambulatory laparoscopic cholecystectomy is associated with good results, a high degree of patient satisfaction and minimal morbidity.
