so it must be planned carefully through pre-anesthesia assessment&#46; This procedure aims to prevent patient safety incidents&#44; reduce the number of delays or failures in the surgery&#44; and reduce unnecessary supporting investigation&#46; The pre-anesthesia assessment process is a complex process involving many professions or expertise and sub-systems within the hospital&#44; thus requires inter-professional collaboration and service integration&#46; This complexity also increases the risk of patient safety incidents which further reinforces the importance of pre-anesthesia assessments&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0105"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1&#44;2</span></a></p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Studies at two type C hospitals in Malang&#44; East Java&#44; showed low pre-anesthesia assessment carried out before surgery&#46; The pre-anesthesia assessment rate at the two hospitals ranges from 0 to 15&#37;&#44; far lower than the standard set by the Hospital Accreditation Commission &#40;KARS&#41;&#44; which is 100&#37;&#46; The evaluation showed that one of the contributing factors is team communication&#44; for example&#44; the late reporting of elective surgery plans by nurses to anesthesiologists&#46; Courage and willingness to remind one another if a team member made a mistake or did not do the procedure that was supposed to be done are very important&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0115"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a></p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Communication between team members was a major factor influencing the quality of health services&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0120"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> Communication among health service team members is a major component in Interprofessional collaboration &#40;IPC&#41;&#46; Several studies found that a problem with IPC between doctors and nurses would hurt health services&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0120"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4&#44;5</span></a> Interprofessional collaboration is influenced by several risk factors&#44; including lack of information&#44; desire to share knowledge&#44; and respect among different professionals&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0125"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a></p><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The behavior of health professionals&#44; in this case&#44; is interprofessional collaboration behavior&#44; is influenced by many factors&#46; Previous studies have suggested that knowledge influences behavior both directly and through attitudes&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0130"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">6&#8211;9</span></a> The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge about pre-anesthesia assessment and interprofessional collaboration and interprofessional collaboration attitudes toward interprofessional collaboration behavior of nurses and doctors in supporting pre-anesthesia assessment in elective surgery cases&#46;</p></span><span id="sec0010" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0040">Method</span><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The study was conducted by using a survey on 80 subjects consisting of doctors &#40;13 people&#41; and nurses &#40;67 people&#41; who were involved in elective surgery preparation at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang General Hospital &#40;RSU UMM&#41;&#46; The selected hospital is a type C private hospital with a capacity of 130 beds and has been fully accredited&#46; Variables on knowledge&#44; attitude&#44; and behavior were measured using a closed instrument&#46; The variables of knowledge consisted of 11 items were divided into knowledge questionnaire about pre-anesthesia assessment &#40;6 items&#41; and interprofessional collaboration &#40;5 items&#41;&#46; Questions about pre-anesthesia assessment were compiled based on the Practice Advisory for Pre-Anesthesia Evaluation&#44;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0150"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">10</span></a> and Preoperative Assessment&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0155"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">11</span></a> Questionnaires about interprofessional collaboration were based on previous research on interprofessional collaboration&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0120"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4&#44;12</span></a> Data were analyzed descriptively and followed by path analysis&#46;</p></span><span id="sec0015" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0045">Results</span><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Overall&#44; respondents&#8217; knowledge was fairly good&#44; but collaboration knowledge &#40;68&#46;17&#37;&#41; appeared to be higher than pre-anesthesia assessment &#40;50&#46;95&#37;&#41;&#46; The collaboration attitude of the subjects was at a good level that was 45&#46;27 from the maximum value of 60 &#40;75&#46;45&#37;&#41;&#44; as well as the collaboration behavior of 40&#46;52 from the maximum score of 52 &#40;77&#46;92&#37;&#41; &#40;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0005">Table 1</a>&#41;&#46;</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="tbl0005"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">According to <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0010">Table 2</a>&#44; there is a weak negative relationship between knowledge and attitude and between attitude and behavior&#46; Also&#44; there is no relationship between knowledge with behavior both directly and through attitude&#46; Overall&#44; the model explains an interesting fact that knowledge is not directly or indirectly related to collaborative behavior&#46; Knowledge has a weak negative relationship with attitudes&#44; also attitudes toward collaborative behavior&#46; The relationship model tested can only explain 22&#37; of the variation in collaborative behavior in the research subjects&#46;</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="tbl0010"></elsevierMultimedia></span><span id="sec0020" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0050">Discussion</span><span id="sec0025" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0055">Nurse-doctor interprofessional knowledge&#44; attitudes&#44; and behaviors in the implementation of pre-anesthesia assessments</span><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The results showed that respondents&#8217; knowledge was quite good&#44; although it appeared that collaboration knowledge was higher than pre-anesthesia assessments&#46; This difference could be triggered by the perception that pre-anesthesia assessment was only the anesthetist responsibility&#46; Pre-anesthesia assessment procedures require good communication and teamwork among the professionals involved&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0105"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1&#44;13</span></a></p><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The collaborative attitude of the respondents was at a good level&#44; same as the collaboration behavior according to the respondents&#8217; perceptions&#46; This was caused by a combination of age and education level factors in which age influences behavior maturity<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0160"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">12</span></a> while education level will influence professionalism&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0170"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">14</span></a> Rumanti found that nurses with D3 education had better collaborative behavior compared to the undergraduates &#40;S1&#41; because the age of S1 nurses tended to be younger&#46; The majority of nurses respondents in our study were graduated from D3&#46; Furthermore&#44; the age and education level of specialist doctors were mature enough to support better collaborative behavior&#46;</p><p id="par0050" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The research results also identified differences in the perception of doctors and nurses about the context and form of collaboration&#46; Differences in the perspectives of doctors and nurses regarding collaboration between specialist doctors and anesthesiology nurses were very likely to occur that resulted from different perspectives on the meaning of collaboration in the scope of anesthesiology services&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0175"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">15</span></a> Doctors feel collaboration has occurred because they feel helped&#46; Instead&#44; nurses felt they were just being told to do something&#46; The second possibility was that nurses felt uncomfortable if they had to &#8220;oppose&#8221; the doctor&#39;s orders or opinions&#44; so they give different assessments from their point of view&#46; Another possibility was that nurses felt unappreciated&#44; so they felt their interaction with the doctor was not a form of collaboration&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0180"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">16</span></a></p></span><span id="sec0030" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0060">Relationship between nurse-doctor interprofessional knowledge&#44; attitudes&#44; and behavior in conducting pre-anesthesia assessment</span><p id="par0055" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">An interesting fact found in this study was knowledge and attitudes on collaboration are not the main objects that shape collaboration behavior&#46; Knowledge was not always related to behavior&#44; there are several factors that inhibit changes in a person&#39;s behavior even though possessing good knowledge&#44; including the willingness to change and accept changes and environmental factors&#46; An environment for example hospital manager&#44; coworkers &#40;nurses or doctors&#41; and family that does not support changes toward a better direction will cause a person to be reluctant to change his behavior even though he has good knowledge&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0135"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">7&#44;17</span></a></p><p id="par0060" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The results showed that collaborative attitudes tended to be negatively correlated with knowledge&#46; This situation could be due to feelings of unpreparedness from team members to collaborate&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0190"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">18</span></a> Unpreparedness can be affected by a lack of confidence in playing roles in the team according to their competence &#40;nurses&#41;&#44; a lack of trust in the ability of team members or other professions &#40;doctors&#41;&#44; as well as inexperience about collaboration in teams&#46;</p><p id="par0065" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Behavior is a reaction from an attitude that can be influenced by internal and external factors&#46; In addition to attitude&#44; many reasons can influence behavior&#44; including subjective norms&#44; beliefs&#44; and intentions to behave in certain ways&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0190"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">18</span></a> In the context of pre-anesthesia assessment in this research&#44; attitude was found negatively correlated with behavior&#46; In UMM General Hospital&#44; there was an environment and organizational culture that did not yet support interprofessional collaboration between doctors and nurses&#46; The majority of nurses in this study were young that is related to the confidence in the ability and authority they have which might inhibiting the formation of collaborative behavior&#46; Besides&#44; the existence of a hierarchy of doctors and nurses that were still deep-rooted causes nurses to feel uncomfortable if they had to oppose doctors&#8217; opinions or orders&#44; even it was only a reminder&#46; The success of collaborative interactions between doctors and nurses must be non-hierarchical in nature&#44; that could improved by dividing tasks according to the authority of each profession&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0175"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">15</span></a></p><p id="par0070" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Previous research identified various factors that inhibit behavior change in a person&#44; including the willingness to change and accept the changes&#46; In addition&#44; environmental factors including lack of organizational support can also cause a person to be reluctant to change&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0135"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">7</span></a> In this context&#44; the possibility of anesthesiologists to feel unguilty if they do not prepare pre-anesthesia assessment is because there is no monitoring and evaluation for this&#46; Although they know the purpose of the pre-anesthesia assessment and the risks that will arise if it is not done&#44; they do not want to change their behavior&#46; Differences in education levels&#44; as well as thick doctor-nurse hierarchy&#44; cause nurses to lose confidence in carrying out their roles as equal partners of doctors&#46; An understanding of the authority limits of each profession is also a determining factor for successful collaboration in a health care team&#46; In addition&#44; the gap in the education level of doctors and nurses causes a lack of confidence among nurses in carrying out their duties&#46; Differences in the views of doctors and nurses about the meaning of collaboration will also affect their perceptions about collaborative practice &#40;behavior&#41;&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0175"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">15</span></a></p></span><span id="sec0035" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0065">Research Implications</span><p id="par0075" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The results showed that knowledge had no relation on collaborative behavior either directly or through an intermediary attitude&#46; This is supported by the fact of a low pre-anesthesia assessment&#44; even if viewed from the completeness of the form before conducting anesthesia&#44; it can be said that pre-anesthesia assessment has never been done&#46; Pre-anesthesia assessment activities are a series of ongoing activities that should be carried out from the treatment room before the patient is sent to the operating theater&#44; at the central surgical installation &#40;if any&#41;&#44; and continues until the patient enters the operating theater&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0155"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">11&#44;19</span></a> Considering that the pre-anesthesia documents&#44; including the pre-anesthesia assessment forms&#44; should have been made available from the treatment room and disseminated to doctors and nurses&#46;</p><p id="par0080" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Although there was a standard operational procedure &#40;SOP&#41; regarding pre-surgical services at UMM General Hospital&#44; including the requirements for pre-anesthesia visits&#44; the implementation of SOP compliance was still low&#46; Previous research states that one of the factors that influence SOP compliance is socialization&#46; Furthermore&#44; socialization can also function as a medium to equalize perceptions between hospital management and implementers &#40;doctors and nurses&#41;&#46; In its implementation&#44; SOP must be followed by monitoring and evaluation aimed to find out problems that can hamper the implementation of the SOP&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0200"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">20</span></a></p></span><span id="sec0040" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0070">Research limitations</span><p id="par0085" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">This study was conducted only at one private hospital&#44; which has different characteristics from other types of hospitals&#44; especially human resources &#40;HR&#41; that could affect the implementation of interprofessional collaboration in pre-anesthesia assessment&#46; The involvement of the entire profession and not only the anesthetist in this study&#44; on one hand&#44; could describe more comprehensively but the results of the study were also influenced by the perception of the involvement of each different profession&#46; The unbalanced proportion of doctors and nurses in this study could indeed affect the results of the study&#44; but this was unavoidable given the aim of the study was to capture the perceptions of all teams involved in the pre-anesthesia assessment process&#46;</p></span></span><span id="sec0045" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0075">Conclusions</span><p id="par0090" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The results showed that respondents&#8217; knowledge&#44; collaboration attitude as well as the collaboration behavior were at a good level&#46; Knowledge was not directly or indirectly related to collaborative behavior&#46; Knowledge had a weak negative relationship with attitude&#44; so did attitude with behavior&#46; The socialization of the procedure followed by monitoring and evaluation along with the improvement of the flow and agreement on authority limits became an important strategy for the hospital to improve the accuracy of the pre-anesthesia assessment&#46;</p></span><span id="sec0050" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0080">Conflict of interest</span><p id="par0095" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The authors declare no conflict of interest&#46;</p></span></span>"

        "resumen" => "<span id="abst0005" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0010">Objective</span><p id="spar0005" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">To explore the interprofessional collaboration knowledge&#44; attitude&#44; and behavior among care providers when performing pre-anesthesia assessment&#46;</p></span> <span id="abst0010" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0015">Method</span><p id="spar0010" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">A survey using closed-ended questionnaires was carried out with 80 respondents &#40;67 nurses&#44; and 13 specialist physicians&#41; in a private hospital with 130 beds&#46; A descriptive and path analysis was performed&#46;</p></span> <span id="abst0015" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0020">Result</span><p id="spar0015" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">Care providers showed a relative good interprofessional collaboration attitude &#40;75&#46;45&#41;&#44; and behaviors &#40;77&#46;92&#41; but a lack understanding of pre-anesthesia assessment &#40;50&#46;95&#41; and interprofessional collaboration &#40;68&#46;17&#41; was revealed&#46; Weakness was noted in the physician&#39;s autonomy dimension of attitude &#40;50&#46;88&#41; and isolation dimension of behavior &#40;73&#46;00&#41;&#46; The path analysis found no significant correlation between knowledge and behaviors but has a low negative correlation with attitude&#46; The attitude itself has a significant negative association with behaviors&#46;</p></span> <span id="abst0020" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0025">Conclusion</span><p id="spar0020" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">Care providers need to have a better understanding related to interprofessional collaboration in pre-anesthesia assessment&#46;</p></span>"
