In the profile of the Public Health Office of Malang, it was mentioned that the number of DHF cases in the last three years is increased. In 2014, 160 cases were found. Meanwhile, 298 cases occurred in 2015 and 464 cases were occurred in 2016. According to Supartha IW,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0090"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span></a><span class="elsevierStyleItalic">Aedes aegypti</span> can proliferate in a clean water tank such as bathtub, crock, bird's water container, and scraps disposed of carelessly, which, during the rainy season, are filled with water. The poor environment will affect the distribution and infection of the parasite. In this case, the environment plays a role in the distribution of vector organisms and host intermediate.</p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Based on the above description, the researcher wishes to research to know the relation between socio-demographic and environment to Dengue Fever (DHF) disease case in Malang.</p></span><span id="sec0010" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0040">Method</span><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">This research used a correlational method to analyze the relationship between variables. Case-control was chosen as a research design. The subject in this research were all DHF patients and non-DHF patients who took participation in this research from January to December 2017 in Malang. The total amount of respondents was 188. Questionnaires were used as the research instrument. The researcher also performed observations and interviews. Data analysis was performed by using the chi-square (<span class="elsevierStyleItalic">X</span><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span>) statistic test. This research was conducted in Malang from November 2017 to July 2018.</p></span><span id="sec0015" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0045">Results</span><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Data collection was performed door to door by visiting houses of each respondent whose addresses were obtained from 15 puskesmas in Malang City. Here is the analysis result of each sub variable.</p><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The results from <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0005">Table 1</a> indicate the existence of DHF patients in the environment had a value of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">X</span><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>=<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>6.90, meaning that there was a significant relationship between the existence of DHF patients in the environment and the case of DHF disease in Malang. Space between houses had a value of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">X</span><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>=<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>6.22, meaning that there was a significant relation between house space and the case of DHF disease in Malang. Water reservoirs had the value of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">X</span><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>=<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>11.78, meaning that there was a significant relationship between the water reservoir and the case of DHF disease in Malang City. The existence of mosquitoes larvae had a value of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">X</span><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>=<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>0.19, meaning that there was no significant relation between the existence of mosquitoes larvae and the case of DHF disease in Malang.</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="tbl0005"></elsevierMultimedia></span><span id="sec0020" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0050">Discussion</span><span id="sec0025" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0055">The relation between age and DHF cases in Malang</span><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Age is one of the factors which affects sensitivity against dengue virus infection. Humans of all ages may be infected by the dengue virus, even the newborn ones.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0095"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a> The result of observation on the relation between age and DHF disease cases showed that there was no significant relationship between age and DHF cases. Younger children have rudimental body endurance compared to that of the adult ones so that children are at a higher risk of being infected by dengue virus.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0100"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> This research is supported by the research of Handoyo et al.,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0095"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a> that there is no significant relationship between respondent's age and DHF cases.</p></span><span id="sec0030" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0060">The relation between gender and DHF cases in Malang City</span><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Nearly most of the contagious diseases may infect all genders. A difference in prevalence between men and women is usually caused by lifestyle.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0105"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a> Based on the results obtained from all of the respondents, it was found out that there was no significant relationship between gender and the case of DHF. The research conducted by Subagia<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0110"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">6</span></a> states that boys are more prone to be infected by DHF (64.7%) than girls. According to Soedarmo et al.,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0115"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">7</span></a> generally, boys are more vulnerable to be infected than girls since the production of immunoglobulin and antibody, genetically and hormonally, is more efficient in girls. As we have already known, DHF is an all-year-around disease in Indonesia because Indonesia is a DHF endemic country. Men and women are equally at risk of being infected by this disease. This statement is supported by the research conducted by Hasyimi et al.,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0120"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">8</span></a> that there is no relationship between gender and DHF. It can be explained that men and women have the same opportunity to be infected by DHF.</p></span><span id="sec0035" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0065">The relation between education and the case of DHF in Malang</span><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Formal education is a structured and staged education that comprises elementary, middle and high education, as in Elementary School/equivalent, Junior High School/equivalent, Senior High School/equivalent and University.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0125"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">9</span></a> Based on the results obtained from the entire respondents, it was found out that there is no significant relationship between education and DHF cases. Different education level generates different basic knowledge of health. The higher the education level, the easier the comprehension and the development of knowledge and technology, resulting in the enhancement of productivity and, subsequently, enhancement of family's health and welfare. The result of research conducted by Amrieds<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0130"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">10</span></a> states the same argument that there is no relation between education and the case of DHF in Kolaka in 2016. It can be said that respondents with Elementary, Junior High, Senior High and above education level have equal (insignificant) risk to be infected by DHF.</p></span><span id="sec0040" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0070">The relation between Job and DHF cases in Malang</span><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Types of jobs include labor, farmer, fisherman, Employee (Civil Servant), seller, or service provider.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0085"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1</span></a> Based on the results obtained from the respondents, it was found that there was no significant relationship between the job and the case of DHF. Purdianingrum<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0135"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">11</span></a> in their research mention that people who are not working possess more time to stay at home so that they have more chances to clean the house which indirectly prevents DHF to occur. People's job affects their knowledge and practical habit to perform an action, since people who have jobs interact more frequently with the ‘outside world’, whether it is with friends or environment, so that they possess the knowledge and experience of the others around, which lead them to perform activities as a realization toward the knowledge and demeanor embedded on them.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0095"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a> Meanwhile, according to Sofia,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0100"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> it can be said that respondents with their various kinds of jobs (not working/student/housewife; farmer/fisherman; entrepreneur or employee) have insignificant different risk against DHF in an endemic region. The research conducted by Handoyo.3 supports this statement.</p></span><span id="sec0045" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0075">Relation between mobility and occurrence of DHF in Malang</span><p id="par0050" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Mobility of residents can be considered an important factor in dengue virus transmission.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0140"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">12</span></a> According to research findings obtained from the entire respondents, it was found that there was a significant relationship between mobility and the occurrence of DHF. Banu et al.,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0145"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">13</span></a> declare that air can increase the spread of the dengue virus through rapid transit of viraemic all over the world. The movement of the world's dengue virus is facilitated by airflow. The increasing of Dengue Fever sufferer is caused by the increase of human transmigration, increasing transportation speed between regions and island, and wider distribution of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">A. aegypti</span> mosquitoes as the infectious vector of dengue virus. This eases the distribution of the infectious source from one city to another. Distribution of mosquito habitat is caused by the mobility of resident and transportation which is occurred in some residents.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0095"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a></p></span><span id="sec0050" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0080">Relation between existence of DHF sufferers and the area of DHF occurrence located in Malang</span><p id="par0055" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Transmission of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever will not occur if the <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">A. aegypti</span> that sucks human blood does not contain dengue virus. It may occur only if the mosquitoes contain dengue virus, that the bite of mosquitoes will transfer the virus to a healthy human body.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0150"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">14</span></a> According to Tsai et al.,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0155"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">15</span></a> the condition of ‘exposed by DHF’ can be detected through the review of the host's history of visiting potential places for getting contact with the vector. This fact can be utilized as a solution to the occurrence of DHF. The vector of DHF has limited capability that they certainly do not bite every time in a day, and their flight distance is also limited. But, the transmission of DHF is still possible.</p></span><span id="sec0055" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0085">Relation between range of house and the occurrence of DHF in Malang</span><p id="par0060" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">According to the requirements of healthy housing mentioned by the National Center Of Healthy Housing,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0115"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">7</span></a> the distance between houses should be twice of house height (2.8<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>m), or, the distance between one house and the other house should be 5<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>m. Several types of research on infectious disease have proven that housing condition which seems to be dense and seedy possesses the higher possibility to be the area of DHF occurrence. According to the result of this study, it was concluded that there was a significant relation between house distance and the occurrence of DHF. House distance affects the distribution of mosquitoes from one house to another house. The closer the distance of houses, the easier the distribution of mosquitoes in the adjoining houses. The result of research conducted by Stoddard et al.,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0115"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">7</span></a> argues that there is a big chance that a house will have contact with another household that is infected by <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">A. aegypti</span>.</p></span><span id="sec0060" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0090">Relation between water reservoirs (TPA) and the occurrence of DHF in Malang</span><p id="par0065" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The result of this research is in line with the research conducted by Rohani,<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0160"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">16</span></a> regarding the factors related to the existence of mosquito larvae of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">A. aegypti</span> in Rajabasa. The research argues that the larvae of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">A. aegypti</span> in Rajabasa are related to the existence of TPA. The result of a study conducted by Gama argues that the existence of containers in the amount of >3 will increase the chance of DHF occurrence for up to 6.75 times if compared with the existence of containers in the amount of 3 or less than 3. DHF disease will successfully be developed in the area that has clear water (located in the house or outside the house), which is not directly contacted with soil. According to Sofia, the mosquitoes of <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">A. aegypti</span> are quite fond of breeding in clear puddle that is not absorbed by the soil.</p></span></span><span id="sec0065" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0095">Conclusion</span><p id="par0070" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">According to the results of this research (on the Relation Between Sociodemographic, Environment and Occurrence of Dengue Fever (DHF) in Malang) we can take conclusions that there is a significant relation between mobilization, existence of DHF sufferer in a location, distance between houses, and water reservoir with the occurrence of Dengue Fever (DHF) in Malang. This type of research uses a Case-control design. The research subjects were 188 respondents. Research instruments in the form of questionnaires, observation and interview techniques.</p></span> <span id="abst0015" class="elsevierStyleSection elsevierViewall"><span class="elsevierStyleSectionTitle" id="sect0020">Results</span><p id="spar0015" class="elsevierStyleSimplePara elsevierViewall">The results showed variables that were significantly associated with the incidence of DHF were mobilization, the presence of DHF patients in the environment, the distance between houses and water containers.
