El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la accesibilidad a Internet y el interés por las nuevas tecnologías de los pacientes hipertensos asistidos en las Unidades de Hipertensión Arterial (HTA) españolas.
Se contactó con 75 Unidades de Hipertensión de todo el territorio nacional para solicitar su colaboración. La recogida de datos se realizó mediante una encuesta de 15 preguntas facilitada por el personal de enfermería, o el propio médico, previamente instruidos. Las encuestas se cumplimentaron entre el 19 de noviembre y el 21 de diciembre de 2001. Se recogieron un total de 2.367 encuestas procedentes de más del 50 % de las Unidades de HTA contactadas. El uso de Internet en el colectivo de pacientes hipertensos analizado no difiere de forma sustancial del uso de Internet en la población general. Se observa un elevado interés por el uso de nuevas tecnologías como una nueva herramienta en el control de la hipertensión por parte de los pacientes. Este interés se demuestra en que un 56 % de los pacientes visitaría una página web dedicada a pacientes hipertensos, un 50 % de los pacientes consultaría con su médico a través de Internet (si bien únicamente el 29 % de los encuestados ha utilizado alguna vez Internet) y un 43,5 % de los pacientes estaría dispuesto a recibir mensajes de salud en su teléfono móvil. En los pacientes hipertensos con edades comprendidas entre los 30 y los 60 años el uso de Internet se cifra en torno al 45 %. Considerando que es en los pacientes más jóvenes donde la implantación de medidas sanitarias produce un mayor beneficio, parece indicado desarrollar programas informativos y formativos a través de Internet y las nuevas tecnologías. Por tanto, cabe afirmar que existe una demanda de nuevas herramientas tecnológicas por parte del colectivo de pacientes hipertensos.
The aim of this study was to evaluate Internet accessibility and interest in new technologies shown by hypertensive patients being attended to in Spanish arterial hypertension (AHT) units.
Seventy-five hypertension units throughout Spain were contacted in order to request their participation. The gathering of information was done using a 15-question survey administered by a previously trained nursing staff or a patient’s own physician. All surveys were completed between Nov. 19 and Dec. 21, 2001. There were gathered a total of 2,367 surveys from more than 50 % of the AHT units which were originally contacted. Internet use in the analyzed group of hypertensive patients does not substantially differ from Internet use in the general population. A great interest in the use of new technologies as a new tool in the control of the hypertension is observed on the part of the patients. This interest is demonstrated by the fact that 56 % of the patients would visit a web page dedicated to hypertensive patients, 50 % of the patients would consult with their doctor through the Internet (although only 29% of those patients polled has ever used the Internet) and 43.5% of the patients would be prepared to receive health messages on their mobile telephone. In hypertensive patients between the ages of 30 and 60, Internet use is around 45%. Taking into consideration that it is the youngest patients who have the most to benefit from the implementation of new health care policies, informative and educational programs utilizing the Internet and other new technologies would seem to be a good idea. Therefore, it is necessary to affirm that there exists a demand for new technological tools on the part of the group of hypertensive patients.m
