En este mismo contexto, el Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Turismo del Gobierno de España publicó el 26 de abril de 2020 una resolución al objeto de ampliar el listado de normas consideradas como equivalentes y validar especificaciones alternativas de EPI con marcado CE europeo<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a>.</p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Los profesionales sanitarios se han convertido en un grupo de población vulnerable durante la pandemia de COVID-19, y los problemas de suministro de EPI se han identificado como un problema crítico para garantizar las condiciones de seguridad y salud de los trabajadores, así como para evitar la sobrecarga del sistema de salud. En vista de la escasez global de EPI, se han usado en los diferentes países equipos de protección individual que no cumplían con los estándares de calidad de producto. Así pues y como indica González-Castro et al.<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> parece evidente que exponer a los sanitarios sin las medidas de protección adecuadas o defectuosas, contribuirá a una mayor exposición del agente biológico.</p><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">En España, existe un vacío de información pública respecto a los informes de los ensayos realizados a las mascarillas autofiltrantes por el Instituto Nacional de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo, en calidad de órgano científico-técnico de la Administración General del Estado, de aquellos equipos adquiridos como como compra pública sin marcado CE<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a>.</p><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Nuestro grupo ha querido realizar una valoración aproximada de la magnitud que ha tenido el uso de equipos de protección respiratoria inadecuados, por los profesionales sanitarios. Se han revisado los análisis efectuados por <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">The National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory</span> (NPPTL)<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0055"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a> sobre los resultados de la evaluación internacional de equipos de protección respiratoria (EPR) no aprobado por <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health from Centers-Disease Control and Prevention</span> (NIOSH-CDC) en el período comprendido desde el 14 de marzo de 2020 hasta el 30 de junio de 2020.</p><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Los resultados obtenidos señalan que de las 348 mascarillas autofiltrantes evaluadas, el 47% dispone de una eficiencia de filtrado superior al estándar N95 de NIOSH (filtrado del 95% de las partículas). El promedio de filtrado máximo es del 92,4% (DE: 14,9) y el promedio de filtrado mínimo es del 82,2% (DE: 24,7).</p><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">También señalamos una gran variabilidad para la máxima eficiencia de filtrado cuyo máximo es del 100% y mínimo del 23,9%. La mínima eficiencia de filtrado presenta un máximo del 99,9% y un mínimo del 8,7%.</p><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Esta contribución pretende poner de manifiesto que un número elevado de los equipos de protección respiratoria puestos en circulación, no alcanzan a cumplir los estándares de calidad de NIOSH, y no garantizan un adecuado filtrado de las partículas.</p><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Además, conviene recordar que los resultados de cualquier prueba de penetración del filtro sirven para verificar la eficiencia del filtro del producto, pero no para garantizar el ajuste de la mascarilla autofiltrante en el portador de la misma. El arnés de cabeza debe ser robusto y garantizar la hermeticidad para evitar la fuga del agente biológico hacia el interior de la mascarilla.
