David Parés MD, PhD FACS is a specialist in General and Digestive Surgery in Barcelona (Spain) at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol. Carola Orrego, PhD, is Director at Avedis Donabedian Research Institute (FAD) and Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with more than 22 years of experience in leading, managing and coordinating projects in the Quality and Patient Safety field. Her main expertise in quality improvement is related to implementation research and scaling up of patient safety interventions and patient empowerment. She has participated in more than 25 competitive research projects in healthcare quality, 12 of them European or international, with total funding of 16 million euros over the last decade. She is the coordinator of the FAD Master Program on Quality and Safety. Author of more than 50 scientific and methodological publications.

Beatriz Zurita, MD, PhD, MAAE, obtained her Medical Degree from Universidad Anáhuac México and then completed PhD in social epidemiology and a Master's in applied economics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr Zurita is a health systems expert with more than 30 years of experience with a passion for improving access to quality health care services. She has worked in public and private institutions in Mexico, coordinating studies of quality and costs of health care and producing data for decision-making, and was involved in health policy design and the implementation of health reform. In the international arena, Dr Zurita has worked as a consultant and was an officer of a multinational international institution, where she transferred knowledge on using tools to assess health needs, evaluate health sector functioning and financing, for health services management and improve the quality of care. Dr Zurita has helped senior managers in several countries to improve their health information systems, use data to develop health policies, and improve their skills for decision-making. She has published documents on health service quality, costs and productivity; resource allocation and health needs; supplier payment mechanisms; health insurance; and public perceptions around consumer health services.

Kaja Põlluste, MD, MPH, PhD (Public Health), is associate professor in internal medicine in the Institute of Clinical Medicine at the University of Tartu with more than 30 years experience in teaching and research in health care management, including quality and safety in healthcare. Her research is focused on the quality and safety of care and health-related quality of life targeting patients with chronic conditions. She has published over 30 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of International Society for Quality in Health Care and ISQua Fellow, and since 2020 a member of the AcademiaNet (The Portal to Excellent Women Academics). Since 2017, she represents the University of Tartu in the national quality and safety group at the Ministry of Social Affairs and is the national coordinator of the translation and adoption of patient safety terminology into Estonian language.
