to the need for training in more general and transverse aspects&#44; such as in communication and emotional intelligence&#46; The training programmes on offer are wide-ranging and periodically recover&#44; influenced by trends&#44; techniques to enhance various skills&#44; some as classic and age-old as creativity and mindfulness&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0030"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">1</span></a></p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">In 2017&#44; a training programme targeting M&#250;tua Terrassa group health professionals &#8211; a group that manages a university hospital and nine health centres &#8211; delivered six courses on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy &#40;MBCT&#41;&#46; These course were delivered both as personal and professional development techniques for the treatment of various mental and physical illnesses&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0035"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span></a></p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Our study analysed the impact of these MBCT-based courses&#44; which integrate the practice of mindfulness with cognitive therapy tools&#44; to improve the management of emotions&#46; We designed a quasi-experimental&#44; before and after study&#44; which was approved by the Clinical Research Ethics Committee&#46; We arranged volunteer participants into groups of 12&#8211;20&#46; The core of the training course was a protocol on MBCT lasting eight weeks&#44; which required participants to attend class 2<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>h per week and included personalised&#44; practical training exercises&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0040"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">3</span></a> The course material included an official <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">dossier</span> with audio exercises&#46; Those enrolled in the course were encouraged to share their experiences through debate and guided reflection&#46;</p><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Sociodemographic data were collected&#58; sex&#44; age and profession&#46; The effectiveness of the training course&#44; where participants learned to relate to their mind&#44; was assessed through the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale &#40;MAAS&#41;&#44; Spanish version&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">4</span></a> This questionnaire was answered by participants twice&#58; at the first and in the final course sessions&#46; The MAAS questionnaire has been validated and contains 15 variables&#44; answered using a scale of 1 to 6 points&#46; We used univariate and bivariate descriptive statistics to analyse our data&#46; We used the Student&#39;s <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">t</span>-test for paired data for the comparison of the results collected from the before and after MAAS questionnaires&#46; Statistical analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS statistical software package &#40;version 25&#59; IBM Corp&#46;&#44; Armonk&#44; USA&#41;&#46; Participation for the questionnaire was 100&#37; among those attending the sessions &#40;first session <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">n</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>&#61;<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>97 and final session <span class="elsevierStyleItalic">n</span><span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>&#61;<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>84&#41; &#40;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0005">Table 1</a>&#41;&#46; Thirteen people filled out the questionnaire for only one session and could thus not be included in the paired pre-post analysis&#46; 97&#37; of the sample were females&#46; Their mean age was 45 &#40;range&#58; 24-61 years-old&#41;&#46; The results obtained before and after course completion on the MAAS scale&#44; are shown in <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#tbl0005">Table 1</a> according to total and grouped by sex&#44; age and profession&#46; In all cases&#44; the MAAS score increased after course completion&#46; Overall&#44; 0&#46;9 more points were obtained after the course &#40;95&#37; CI&#58; 0&#46;7-1&#46;0 points&#41;&#46; In addition&#44; there was also a relationship between the pre-course MAAS score and age&#44; although not with profession&#46; Those aged younger than 45 scored 0&#46;3 points less than those who were 45 years-old or older &#40;95&#37; CI&#58; 0&#46;1-0&#46;6 points&#41;&#46;</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="tbl0005"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">The main limitations of the study were that the course was delivered for volunteer participants who might have different characteristics from those who did not request this training&#44; that there was no control group and that there was a loss of 13&#37; of the sample for the paired analysis&#46;</p><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Professionalism is defined by health professionals&#8217; values and competencies&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a> We consider being aware of what our priorities and preferences are and reflecting on their suitability is essential&#44; since it can influence our decisions and actions&#46;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050"><span class="elsevierStyleSup">5</span></a> This study saw differences by age and sex&#46; The health professional profile interested in receiving this type of training was that of a female whose average age was 45 and whose profession was often administrative&#46; Also worth noting was that age correlated positively with the MAAS score obtained before the course&#46; All the professional groups&#44; of any sex&#44; age and profession&#44; showed similar benefits in the MAAS scale after the course&#46;</p><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">In conclusion&#44; completing a brief course based on cognitive therapy improved voluntary health professionals&#8217; mindfulness skills&#46; The professionals valued having such self-knowledge and self-control tools positively&#46;</p></span>"
