He was admitted for asthenia, hyporexia and loss of 7 kg of weight in 2 months. Physical examination revealed thinness (BMI: 17 kg/m<span class="elsevierStyleSup">2</span>) and oedema in the lower limbs; blood tests showed hypoalbuminaemia (2.19 g/l). Thoracoabdominal CT showed a striking concentric mural thickening of the gastric wall (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig. 1</a>). Gastroscopy confirmed the increased presence of folds in the body of the stomach (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0010">Fig. 2</a>). An initial biopsy was performed but was inconclusive, requiring a second gastroscopy (macrobiopsy of the body of the stomach), the result of which was also non-diagnostic. Finally, it was decided to perform an endoscopic ultrasound that detected a diffuse thickening of the gastric wall dependent on the mucosa and submucosa, and without involvement of the muscle layer.
