Physical examination revealed palpable hepatomegaly and an umbilical nodule (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig. 1</a>). Abdominal computed tomography showed thickening of the gastric wall and reported an umbilical hernia with fatty contents (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0010">Fig. 2</a>). Endoscopic sampling of the gastric wall showed a positive result for intestinal-type gastric cancer. Subsequently, it was decided to perform a biopsy of the umbilical nodule, the result of which was compatible with adenocarcinoma metastasis, thus confirming the suspected diagnosis of Sister Mary Joseph’s nodule. The patient was not a candidate for active treatment and died three months after diagnosis.</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0005"></elsevierMultimedia><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0010"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Sister Mary Joseph’s nodule is a localised metastasis at the umbilical level usually associated with gastrointestinal or gynaecological tumours. This suspicion should be taken into account when assessing imaging tests in patients with neoplasms.
