Abstract

We report a case of leiomyosarcoma of the vulva, an exceptionally rare malignant tumour. An extensive review of the literature revealed 47 published cases. Follow-up was performed for more than 5 years, and outcome was favorable.

We analyze the benign clinical appearance of this entity, the criteria for its histological characterization and grading and the various treatments that can be applied. The most effective treatment seems to be primary surgical resection with sufficiently wide tumoral margins.
