Resumen

La conducta suicida entre adolescentes ha experimentado un aumento significativo en la última década, según un estudio de la Fundación ANAR. Posteriormente, se destaca un incremento del 128% en el periodo post-COVID-19. Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar los motivos de ingreso y características sociodemográficas de adolescentes hospitalizados en 2023. Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo en el Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro. De los 229 ingresos registrados, el 78,6% eran mujeres y el 21,4% varones, con una media de edad de 15,07 años. La ideación autolítica y los intentos autolíticos fueron los motivos principales de ingreso, siendo la sobreingesta medicamentosa el método más común. Los diagnósticos principales al alta fueron trastorno mixto de emociones y conducta de inicio en la infancia y adolescencia, y trastorno adaptativo. La mayoría tenía antecedentes de salud mental. Estos hallazgos refuerzan la importancia de programas de prevención e intervención precoz para abordar el suicidio como un problema de salud pública urgente.

Abstract

The suicidal behavior among adolescents has shown a significant increase in the last decade, according to a study by the ANAR Foundation. Subsequently, there is a highlighted increase of 128% in the post-COVID-19 period. This study aims to analyze the reasons for admission and sociodemographic characteristics of adolescents hospitalized in 2023. An observational descriptive study was conducted at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital. Out of the 229 recorded admissions, 78.6% were females and 21.4% males, with a mean age of 15.07 years. Suicidal ideation and suicide attempts were the main reasons for admission, with drug overdose being the most common method. The main diagnoses at discharge were mixed emotions and behavior disorder onset in childhood and adolescence, and adaptive disorder. The majority had a history of mental health problems. These findings reinforce the importance of prevention and early intervention programs to address suicide as an urgent public health issue.
