Abstract

The elastofibroma dorsi is a benign, nonencapsulated pseudotumor consisting of a proliferation of fibrous tissue and elastic fibers accompanied by fatty tissue. It is usually locate in the scapular region and can be unilateral or bilateral. The computed tomography and magnetic resonance findings are characteristic and, in the proper clinical context, practically pathognomic: a fat-containing subscapular mass with an attenuation coefficient and signal intensity similar to those of the adjacent muscles. We report two new cases of elastofibroma dorsi that fulfilled all the clinical and radiologic criteria, enabling the preoperative diagnosis.
