Adaptación transcultural del cuestionario LBOS a la población española

Resumen.--Objetivos. Realizar la adaptación a la población española del test LBOS (Low Back Outcome Score), creado por Greenough y Fraser, que se utiliza para valorar la incapacidad en los pacientes con dolor lumbar. Se miden también sus características métricas. Material y métodos. Cuatro traductores bilingües han utilizado un método de traducción-retrotraducción para garantizar una adecuada equivalencia conceptual. Se suministró el cuestionario, que es autoaplicado, a 118 pacientes adultos afectos de lumbalgia crónica. Para medir la fiabilidad se volvió a aplicar el test a 58 de estos pacientes dos semanas más tarde. Resultados. En la versión española del cuestionario se han obtenido un grado de consistencia interna aceptable (α = 0,84) y una fiabilidad muy alta con un índice de correlación de Pearson test-retest de 0,9. Se ha obtenido un índice de correlación entre la nueva escala y la de Oswestry de ­0,879, lo que indica que existe una buena correlación inversa, ello es debido a que la escala de Oswestry mide porcentaje de incapacidad, y la nueva escala mide situación funcional, por tanto una puntuación elevada en la escala de Oswestry debe corresponderse con una escasa puntuación de LBOS. Conclusiones. El cuestionario es sencillo de responder, requiere poco tiempo para su contestación y para su corrección; es un instrumento muy útil para medir la incapacidad en los pacientes con lumbalgia, ya que hace referencia a la situación previa del paciente. Es un test totalmente válido para ser aplicado en la población española.

Summary.--Objectives. Perform the adaptation to the Spanish population of the test LBOS (Low Back Outcome Score), created by Greenough and Fraser, which is used to assess the incapacity in the patients with low back pain. Their metric characteristics were also measured. Material and methods. Four bilingual translators have used a translation-back-translation method to assure adequate conceptual equivalence. The questionnaire, which is self-applied, was administered to 118 adult patients suffering chronic back pain. To measure reliability, the test was applied again to 58 of these patients two weeks later. Results. In the Spanish version of the questionnaire, an acceptable internal consistence grade (α = 0.84) and a very high reliability with a Pearson test-retest correlation index of 0.9, were obtained. A ­0.879 correlation index between the new scale and that of Oswestry was obtained. This indicates that there is a good inverse correlation. This is due to the fact that the Oswestry scale measures percentage of incapacity, and the new scale measures functional situation. Thus, an elevated score on the Oswestry scale should correspond with a limited score on the LBOS. Conclusions. The questionnaire is simple to answer. It requires little time to answer and to correct. It is a very useful instrument to measure incapacity in the patients with low back pain since it refers to the previous situation of the patient. It is a totally valid test to be applied in the Spanish population.
