RESUMEN
Introducción.

Los avances tecnológicos y el desarrollo de diferentes técnicas en la realización de bloqueos de nervio periférico, permiten la expansión de esta área a diferentes escenarios. Este artículo hace una revisión de los diferentes aspectos relacionados con la técnica para la realización de bloqueos de nervio periférico.

Metodología.

Se realizó una búsqueda y escogencia de la literatura en las bases de datos referenciales PubMed, Cochrane, Scielo, LILACS; se amplió según la bibliografía encontrada en los textos revisados por el autor; la búsqueda fue realizada en términos MeSH incluidos en las palabras clave.

Resultados.

Se presentan elementos de la fisiología de la neuroconducción, el funcionamiento del estimulador de nervio periférico, la anatomía de las diferentes estructuras nerviosas y se revisan los medicamentos, equipos y procedimientos relacionados.

SUMMARY
Background.

Technological advances and the development of several new techniques have helped expand the use of peripheral nerve blocks in different situations. This paper is designed to review several issues related with the tecniques to perform peripheral nerve blocks.

Methods.

The literature search and selection was done in PubMed, Cochrane, Scielo, LILACS; it was expanded on the basis of the references found in texts reviewed by the author; the search was done using the MeSH terms included as keywords.

Results.

Physiology of neural conduction, functioning of the peripheral nerve stimulator, anatomy of the several neural structures, drugs, and techniques are showed.
