Since then, the REMN has decisively contributed to the scientific development of Spanish nuclear medicine. In 1997, the REMN was included in the Index Medicus/MEDLINE database1. To better understand the place that the REMN occupied at this time, of the 14,000 biomedical journals available, only 4000 were recognized and included in the Index Medicus/MEDLINE, thereby allowing the REMN to widen it diffusion.

The bibliometric study made in 2007, 25 years after the first issue of the REMN2, states that this journal is consolidated within the area of diagnostic imaging and its priority objective was for Thomson-ISI to accept REMN among the Journal Citation Reports, which would increase its international projection.

In 2010 Thomson-ISI included the REMN on the list of 104 journals in its subject area (radiology, nuclear medicine and medical imaging). The impact factor is a semiquantitative index that is calculated by dividing the number of citations of the article published in the previous 2 years by the total number of articles published. Although this may be an imperfect measure, it is the universal method for classifying and comparing scientific publications. The impact factor defines the importance of a determined journal and is a determinant element at the time of deciding where to publish an article. A higher impact factor accumulated by investigators is recognized as greater scientific quality and capacity, generating, in turn, greater capacity to obtain resources for future investigations. In 2017, the REMN, achieved an impact factor of 1.202, being the highest it has obtained to date.

In 2011, the REMN began to be published in Spanish and English with the aim of increasing international diffusion4, having achieved one publication completely in Spanish and another with the same content wholly in English in 20185.

Taking into account the evolution of the specialty of Nuclear Medicine, in 2009 a new denomination for the society was approved and it became the Sociedad Española de Medicina Nuclear e Imagen Molecular (Spanish Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging [SEMNIM, acronym in Spanish]). The Revista Española de Medicina Nuclear e Imagen Molecular (Spanish Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging), was founded in 1982, and is the official journal of the Spanish Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, which has more than 700 members. The Journal, which publishes 6 regular issues per year, has the promotion of research and continuing education in all fields of Nuclear Medicine as its main aim. For this, its principal sections are Originals, Clinical Notes, Images of Interest, and Special Collaboration articles. The works may be submitted in Spanish or English and are subjected to a peer review process. In 2009, it became the leading Spanish journal in the field of Medical Imaging on having an Impact Factor , awarded by the Journal Citation Reports.
