Las características del contexto y la interacción sociofamiliar (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0040">Rosemberg y Stein, 2019</a>), así como la lengua o lenguas con las que interactúa el hablante, representan algunas de esas características contextuales que debemos considerar por su papel en la regulación de la conducta, en el pensamiento y la solución de problemas, y por ser parte de ese contexto sociocultural que inducirá formas específicas de lenguaje, pensamiento y acción. Siempre con la complejidad derivada del conjunto de variables (sociales, económicas, educativas, genéticas, etc.) que caracterizan a los contextos y a los individuos que interactúan sistémicamente en ellos. En este nuevo número de la revista podemos observar cómo la investigación logopédica se enfrenta a esta complejidad. Lo hace no solo desde el conocimiento clínico y educativo del que se nutre, sino también desde la aportación de otras disciplinas que, desde el ámbito de la salud, la educación o la lingüística, se ocupan de entender e intervenir sobre el desarrollo humano en toda su amplitud. La investigación experimental de laboratorio, la investigación e intervención clínica, de igual modo que la investigación e intervención más ecológica y naturalista sobre el lenguaje y la comunicación, son creaciones culturales humanas como señalaba <a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0050">Valsiner (1994)</a>. Todas aportan conocimiento básico o aplicado, tienen su lugar en la construcción de conocimiento logopédico, y ayudan a identificar las variables relevantes y a determinar el porcentaje de varianza que pueden explicar. En todo ello, la interacción dinámica y recíproca entre ellas a lo largo de la vida hace verdaderamente difícil llegar a conclusiones irrefutables.</p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">La pragmática es un ámbito de estudio especialmente interesante para abordar el efecto inductor que el contexto tiene sobre el desarrollo del lenguaje. Y para intentar profundizar en las complejas relaciones entre desarrollo cognitivo y lingüístico. La implicación que los déficits pragmáticos tienen en la configuración de diferentes trastornos de la comunicación hacen muy relevante afrontar el problema de su evaluación temprana. Cada día son más las herramientas disponibles, pero también con cada una de ellas asoman problemas cuya resolución exige más y más investigación. Es el caso, por ejemplo, de los diferentes resultados que, a veces, se obtienen a partir de las pruebas de ejecución directa y aquellos derivados de informes parentales o de profesionales. Es cierto que estos últimos parecen presentar una mayor validez ecológica y suelen coincidir en mayor medida con la descripción de síntomas propia de muchos trastornos o alteraciones del lenguaje o del comportamiento. Pero también es cierto que están afectados por sesgos cuyo control parece necesario antes de conceder validez a sus resultados. Los sistemas de creencias parentales (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0045">Sigel et al., 2014</a>) se encuentran entre las causas de estos sesgos. La interpretación de la conducta infantil que los padres o familiares realizan no es ajena a sus ideas o concepciones acerca de los determinantes del desarrollo, como tampoco es ajena a sus ideas acerca del calendario madurativo de los hijos, o su papel como agentes activos del desarrollo infantil, o a sus diferentes modos de interactuar alrededor de tareas cotidianas, o la experiencia previa con personas, familiares o no, con dependencia en algún grado (caso de las familias con hijos que presentan algún tipo de discapacidad).</p><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">En este sentido, las creencias de los padres en tanto que se transforman en acciones concretas, actúan como contexto que induce formas concretas de desarrollo, El tipo de tareas que se realizan, la riqueza y variedad de estímulos y experiencias que se proporcionan, la conciencia de su papel como agentes activos del desarrollo infantil, y el grado de permeabilidad que tengan como sistema, con otros como el escolar, el sanitario, etc., son indudablemente factores que impulsan e influyen en la dirección del desarrollo. Los y las logopedas conocen bien esta realidad y el efecto facilitador o no que estos elementos tienen en sus programas de intervención terapéutica y educativa.</p><p id="par0020" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Es también en el contexto familiar donde los efectos de vivir en un contexto bilingüe se pueden observar con claridad. El contexto español es especialmente rico e interesante en este sentido. Si se puede convenir en el efecto beneficioso que el bilingüismo tiene sobre el desarrollo, quizás sea importante profundizar en él, y alejarse de controversias estériles. Ahora bien, especificar cuáles son sus posibles ventajas e inconvenientes, ha sido y sigue siendo un reto para la investigación científica (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0015">Bialystok, 2009</a>). Existe suficiente evidencia de que el bilingüismo temprano se puede relacionar con un incremento de la flexibilidad mental y aquellas funciones cognitivas relacionadas con la atención y la inhibición, además de, entre otras, un aumento de la conciencia metalingüística; y una habilidad mayor de comunicación.</p><p id="par0025" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">La evidencia existente, parece avalar la idea de que el aprendizaje y desarrollo en contextos bilingües se traducen en cambios en la organización cerebral a lo largo del desarrollo(<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRefs" href="#bib0030">Pliatsikas y DeLuca, 2017; Pliatsikas et al., 2015</a>). La corteza prefrontal parece estar implicada en el control ejecutivo, pero también otras estructuras corticales y subcorticales, tales como los ganglios basales (inhibición), el cerebelo (control de motor) o el cuerpo calloso (comunicación interhemisférica) que desempeñan un papel importante en el funcionamiento ejecutivo.</p><p id="par0030" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Diversos estudios, como el de Christos et al. (2020) o Rahmani et al. (2017), entre otros, han puesto de manifiesto que el bilingüismo precoz influye en el desarrollo y establecimiento de las Funciones Ejecutivas. De hecho, los datos sugieren que puede haber diferencias estructurales en el cerebro entre adultos bilingües y monolingües. Independientemente de otros efectos, el uso activo de dos o más idiomas en la vida diaria es un fenómeno que desempeña un papel en la reserva cognitiva, es decir, la preservación de la función cognitiva con el envejecimiento (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0020">Bialystok et al., 2012</a>). Esto incluye la capacidad para resolver conflictos cognitivos no lingüísticos y ejercer un mayor control ejecutivo.</p><p id="par0035" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Los resultados de un meta-análisis de 63 estudios que examinaban los efectos cognitivos asociados con el bilingüismo en niños, pusieron de manifiesto que la experiencia de hablar dos idiomas produce beneficios cognitivos en las áreas de control atencional, memoria de trabajo, habilidades de representación abstracta y simbólica, y conciencia metalingüística (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0005">Adesope et al., 2010</a>).</p><p id="par0040" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">De todas maneras, tal y como señalan (<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#bib0010">Baum y Titone, 2014</a>) características individuales tales como la edad, la edad de adquisición de la segunda lengua, la competencia con el idioma, e incluso las combinaciones de idiomas específicos, pueden estar mediatizando esta relación.</p><p id="par0045" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Lo cierto, por otro lado, es que la estimulación de las funciones cognitivas y del metalenguaje, se producen también a través de otros medios. La alfabetización contribuye enormemente en este sentido al desarrollo del metalenguaje y también existen programas educativos dirigidos a su desarrollo específico en la escuela. Lo cual explica, en parte, que las comunidades monolingües obtengan buenos resultados en lenguaje oral y escrito, rendimiento escolar, desarrollo intelectual, etc.</p><p id="par0050" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Observar el lenguaje y la comunicación en su contexto, sea para entenderlo y explicarlo o sea para intervenir sobre él, son esenciales desde una perspectiva científica. Pocos aspectos del funcionamiento cognitivo, lingüístico y social actúan de forma aislada. Más bien, operan sistémicamente en un continuo dinámico de influencias recíprocas. La intervención logopédica, como otras formas de intervención, actúan sobre el individuo en contexto, de hecho, el individuo es parte de él. Y, a la vez, tanto la intervención como su eficacia se ven afectados por ellos.
