Abstract

Facial harmony is significantly influenced by the morphology, dimension and position of the chin. Of the several procedures used for correction of the chin, the horizontal osteotomy of the lower border of the mandible, or mentoplasty, is the most favored approach for its multiple corrective possibilities.

Clinical and cephalometric aspects considered in the evaluation of chin problems and surgery planning are discussed in this article and also the most common surgical techniques and their clinical indications.
