Abstract

Rheumatic manifestations of human immunodeficiency virus infection are common. There is a wide spectrum of rheumatic conditions. Arthralgias and musculoskeletal infections are the most common, although oligo and polyarthritis and other autoimmune conditions such as Sjögren's syndrome and vasculitis have also been reported. Recently, new rheumatic diseases, like osteoporosis, have been described.

In the last decade, the longer life expectancy of HIV-infected patients, the better inmunological status and the widespread use of highly active antiretroviral therapy have changed the clinical expression of the musculoskeletal manifestations.
